This is my last hope of finding a solution. I've tried everything.
My right ear has done this thing on and off ever since I can remember. My doctor thought it was due to swollen tonsils but the meds he gave me didn't help. The closest I can come up with is a patulous Eustachian tube, but again my doctor didn't see anything wrong with my ear. He said it looks totally normal.
I've seen him twice, but don't want to go again as he obviously didn't find a solution. And I'm broke...
But for about two months now (the longest this has ever happened) every single day, usually most of the day starting right when I wake up or soon after, it stars. Sometimes with ringing, sometimes it's just my heartbeat or a thumping. But most of the time it sounds like breathing. I know this sounds crazy but it literally sounds (and actually feels) like my ear has become a second nose.
It only happens when my mouth is closed and I'm breathing out my nose. If I'm breathing completely out of my mouth, or plugging my ear, I can't hear it. It always feels stuffy even though it's not. I haven't had a cold in I don't know how long. I clean my ears enough that it wouldn't be built up earwax, but not so much that stuff can get in there. Lying down on that side doesn't help, putting my head between my legs doesn't help. Drinking more water hasn't helped. I've tried multiple antihistamines and the doxycycline my doctor had me try.
I can't stand it anymore. It is literally driving me to insanity. I'm already mentally ill and this does not help my state of mind. It LITERALLY makes me have panic attacks and takes away from a quality life. I don't know how to explain this anymore.
I feel mucus drain down the back of my throat, but I'm never actually congested. It feels like it but when I blow my nose it's as if I'm completely dry. I've been sneezing a lot more than usual, and I've noticed my balance to be a little off. Other than that no sickness, no fatigue. I've been having a hard time staying asleep but I doubt that has anything to do with my ear.
Hi I hv tinnitus in both my ears and hv right ear earing loss I am deaf in my right ear.the more u concentrate on this tinnitus it will become worse so try to ignore it the brain will get use to it.sooner u will not realise it .
I'm not actually sure it's tinnitus though. I have looked into it but I don't really have all the symptoms. I'm only 22 and have never had any sort of injury that would damage my hearing. I'm sorry you have to deal with the hearing loss and as far as a circulatory system disorder I've been told I'm in good health, physically anyway.
I had a friend who had tinnitus when she was under going stress.she didn't even realise she was stress with all the exams but tinnitus can come in when u are stressed.try to do yoga relax yourself don't concentrate on it and it will go away don't worry dear.yes u are young but always remember there are was problems then ours.i always tell myself alest I won't die of earing lose .I have a friend who has stage 4 cancer we must compare ourself with someone worse then us and we will feel better.gd luck dear
I don't think I'm that stressed. Although if that can be a cause then maybe anxiety can too? I'm always anxious. I'll try to remember to start stretching and doing yoga everyday and see if that helps. Maybe I'll at least be able to ignore it then.
I'd suggest trying decongestants (or allergy+decongestant medications) but when I start them, they make me anxious as it raises my heart rate, I think - feels like my heart is racing, usually in the middle of the night and I can't fall back to sleep. But, I keep taking them once in a while because my vestibular system goes nuts (veritgo) and this helps me when it does. Or I get a nasty cold or allergies that won't go away. Antihistamines alone don't help me, I need that "D".
Please have your B12 checked. I was diagnosed with low B12 and had come to accept my worsening tinnitus. My mother suffers from it badly and I'm mid-40s so I thought I'm just going down that road. I was amazed at how much better it got when the doc started me on injections!! I hope it's something that "easy" for you! B12 deficiency can cause a vast range of problems, including palpitations (does that sound like your panic attacks?):
Hmm I've never even looked into that. Thank you for the link! That sounds like it could be more like a problem that I may have. I don't have a normal diet at all so being b12 deficient could actually make the most sense. I'm definitely going to have to look into this more. Thank you for your insight!
Hi,does these ringing or long ring ,happen when you remember to breath or when your in a dazz state..Sometime when i do get them,i try to focus on my breathing,to stop it ...I have really bad tinnitus mostly its white noise and cicada, but these long ring only happen when you forget to breath or leak of breathing.....
This sounds like it is Patulous Eustation Tub or PET. The primary symptoms are hearing your nasil breathing like dearth Vader and hearing your own voice when you speak. There is one other condition that has similar symptoms called Superior Canal Dehiscence (SCDS) but your description sound more like PET. Either way, you should try and meet with an ear nose and throat Dr (ENT) also known as an otolaryngologist. I have SCDS in case you have any questions. I know the symptoms are very annoying.
Hi! I want to ask you about your case after 2 years if did you get well? I'm 22 years old and i got the same things that you went through the doc gave me meds and it didn't work either and i'm loosing my mind i can not sleep normaly any more since last July. Pls tell me if it was a low B12-Vitamine or it was tinnitus????
Its more likely to be tinnitus. Check with an audiologist as the symptoms are pointing towards it. Here is a small help guide that can guide you in case of tinnitus https://earguru.in/guide-to-tinnitus-symptoms-causes-and-cure.
Sounds like patulous eustachian tube (PET). Hearing your nasil breathing is one of the symptoms. For many people this goes away when laying down or bending over. Lots of info online to review.
I’ve had this issue of hearing what virtually sounds like someone breathing in my inner ear - and yet it’s almost like you might imagine hearing yourself breath maybe if you had your ears submerged in a bath and you were listening to your own breathing. It’s usually in one ear but I think can be occassionly be in both. I don’t get it much now thankfully but every blue moon it crops up day or night. It used to scare me when I was a kid but I’ve gotten used to it . I’m 57 now. I know others can’t hear it because I’d ask siblings in the old days (topping , or topping and tailing in bed) and they couldn’t hear anything - and in other situations too . I’ve stopped breathing and the sound continues. I’ve tested it for sync with my heartbeats but nada - no synchronicity there either. Ive never had any ear problems at all in my life and mostly have had pretty good health and no nasal congestion or anything like that .
It just starts ( some times strong sometimes faintly but it’s a very rhythmical breathing type of pattern) and then it just fades away after say a few minutes 5-10.
One time however it started while I was in a position to feel (for no particularly memorable reason either) a blood vessel pulsating in my head area - and I discovered there was a synchronicity ... but it only happened once for me , which is the shame ( I think in the last 5 years) as repetition of it would’ve confirmed to me a definite relationship there .
Doctors have never found any thing wrong with my ears when they’ve checked me out .
I’m no doc but I wonder if it’s the blood vessel pulsating pressure which may be slightly behind the heart given the anatomical distance heart to head vessels ... buggered if I know ... I’m just throwing it out there .
What I have come to feel after that is that it’s not some spirit inhabiting my inner ear (I used to wonder and be scared by it when a kid ; but as I got older it’s just been more a source of constant mystery and wonderment to me) and occassionly breathing inside my ear for some strange communication reason - now I’m pretty confident there’s an underlying physical cause to it .
Patulous Eustachean tube is the first thought that came to mind for me.. i've seen some good comments about something called Patul End, its a spray that i saw online to be effective in thickening the opening end of the Eustachean tube and reduces symptoms of PETD. Give it a research.. i hope things get better for you..
