I have SS and have lots of neuropathy, especially in my hips, legs and feet. Earlier this week, I began to experience some in my right hand (top near thumb). When I run my hand (I often do because the joints hurt), my thumb and first 2 fingers go numb. Also, the day after it began to hurt, I woke from a nap to find bruising and swelling. It is almost like I injured myself, but I know that I didn't. Has anyone ever experienced this before? I asked my rheumatologist and she is putting me on steroids for 7 days. She said if it is not better to see an orthopedist. Just another weird thing in a long list of weirdness!
Did you put that photo of the hand at the end of your message? The hand looks white like what happens in Raynauds.....but then again my eyes are not in top form at the moment!
My friend took that picture of my hand. I have read about Raynaud's, but I thought it was the tips of your fingers. I had an appointment with Rheumatology today for something else and asked what she thought. She said was not part of SS and then prescribed steroids. She said if still like this in 7 days, for me to go to orthopedist.
I see the bruising and cannot imagine why an orthopedist would be interested in unexplained bruising, could never interest the 4 different ones I've seen in 2 States. None of mine is like that. Has anyone talked to you about vasculitis? I only know that my internist keeps am eye out for it in blood work as she seems to believe it can come along with or as part of AI diseases. I think some folks on here have it. Hope they'll pop up soon and clear up my misinformation.
Thanks for the input. I am at a loss and will look into vasculitis. As I said in my first post, I have only had the SS diagnosis since September, so I am new to everything and trying to educate myself as much as possible. I have certainly had the symptoms of SS for much longer, but didn't know they were related.
I have had SS for a long time but only recently been diagnosed. I read that it can also trigger Raynaud's & your hand certainly looks as though Raynaud's may be the cause. I am in the UK & one of my Specialists has referred me to a Rheumatologist. I am still learning but I think that you need to return to your Rheumatologist after your 7 days.
