Just thought I would share my experience with these meds (patches). Began taking 5mgs a few weeks ago, made no difference to my chronic back pain (sacroilities, S1 joint pain, L3/4/5/6 herniated discs) so GP changed to 10mg, made some difference by approx 50% and was able to walk without being in too much pain, but am coming off them now due to the unwanted side effects. I suffered nausea, especially in the morning and evening, sleeplessness, very weird dreams, dizzy and sick when sitting in the sun for more than 5 mins, irritability, mood swings etc, crying for no apparent reason and more. My family noticed the big change in me. I have always been an outgoing person who laughed a lot, the laughter stopped, moodiness set in. A really desperate situation so spoke to my GP and am coming off them slowly now. Need to get the real me back again. Would rather have chronic pain that is dibilitating than a loss of 'self'. Never again,
You have my sympathy. Each of us reacts differently to different types of medication.
for me, Bu-Trans patches are a life changer. Due to Scheuermann's kyphosis, I slept little, was in constant pain, and could not drive more than 5 miles.
Now I am mobile and able to get around.
i hope you are able to find a suitable alternative.
Thankyou and I don't wish to put anyone off as I know it can work wonders for some. Already I'm feeling back to some normality albeit in pain but am glad for the way I feel right now. I've tried tablets and nothing worked like these, just didn't like how they left me feeling.
¡Mucha suerte!
Hi Louise I was put on the patches to help with codeine addiction I know I know they replaced one addiction for another. Anyway all good for a while then exactly ad you described my mood changed I changed it was horrendous so I went cold turkey which wasn't much fun. I actually suffer SI probs as well and am on tramadol mixture, NSAIDs and still have some days in agony. I was so close to going to pharmacy and buying panadeine extra 500 paracetamol / 15mg codeine. I told my doc and we decided in oxycodone for breakthrough pain. He can keep an eye in how much I take and I stay away from codeine. Anyway sorry to ramble but between the tram sr, ir, nsaid and occasional oxy I can keep pain under control. Mixture varies on a daily basis though. Good luck x
