Hi ladies anyone out there suffering from burning skin sensation on a daily basis, I'm in perimenapause and this is driving me crazy my symptoms comes and goes please if anyone can share.
Yes, I’ve had this off and on. Sometimes it’s like I’m burning from the inside, in a widely spread area-other times it feels like my skin has a sunburned spot but no redness. I’ve not yet figured out if it’s part of migraines (I have weird ones) or hormones. Where are you having the burning sensation?
I used to feel burning in my face and upper back.
And of course you’ve all heard me complain about my burning feet. Sometimes it goes up my legs. Always worse on the left but get it right side too. When my feet start to burn it will coincide with other symptoms that seem to rotate, could be stomach pain, upper back shoulder blade pain, dizzy, nausea, hard to breathe, etc.. Right now they are burning and I feel like I can’t get a deep breath.
I still think it could be a hot flash without the overall sweating and just localized in the body.
Hi Roseburg,
I have it on my shoulders legs also I touch my scalp it feels hot, been having all these crazy symptoms since perimenapause but this burning started a week before Easter it comes and goes.
Yes! I had a burning feeling down both shins when I was peri......felt like sunburn if that makes sense? No redness to see but felt as if there should be.
I'd forgotten about that til I read your post. Think it lasted for a couple of months and then something else came along for me to worry about (!) Oh joy...... I used to cool it down with Aloe Vera gel I kept in the fridge.
Hi Suzanne,
How long have you had this for, this is driving me crazy, I have it on my shoulders right now and legs but then it will sub side then come back some days can get more intense then I have to sit in front of a fan I hate to go out side when I feel like this ,and the sun makes it worse and go figure I live in sunny florida.
Hi UKjo,
Yes that's exactly how it feels like a sunburn, it's driving me crazy.
I’ve had the “sunburned” feeling in a random localized patch off and on, but the burning from the “inside” of my skin is different. Almost like someone has rubbed that “icy-hot” linament for athletes all over my arms and face. Warm things feel too hot, cold things feel colder, etc.
Have you tried treating it the same way as a sunburn?
I used the aloe gel as I said and I found that (as my skin felt a bit drier than normal too) using a moisturising after sun product helped too. It was summertime here & at first I genuinely thought I had caught some sun unawares - ha ha fat chance. I live in England - it was hardly a tropical summer.
Good luck with it. It was irritating but it passed. We just have to find our way through these things don't we?
Thank you,
I'm going to try it,do you remember for how long you had it for.
On and off for a couple of months I think. It's a couple of years ago now and I've never had it again.
I think if it had been more continuous or had persisted I would have seen a doctor but I seemed to get rid of it by calming it down. Hope it's the same for you too.
Did you just had it on your chin, or did it move around.
Hi Jacqueline - about a month & 1/2 ago I woke up with burning shins that lasted about two weeks (Also was on top of my feet) then about two weeks ago I woke up in the middle of the night with the most intense burning sensation on my back (between shoulder blades) that radiated to my chest - of course I went on Dr Google & thought maybe I was having an aorta aneurism, so off to the ER I went - heart checked out fine after 3 tests! My GP was/is perplexed by my symptoms, although I am awaiting the test results of a really scary syndrome - 🙏 that all checks out - all I can figure out is that this burning sensation must be caused by imbalanced hormones wrecking havoc on the nervous system. It all goes hand in hand since my anxiety has also been thru the roof. This menopause is the gift that keeps on giving - Hah! Mind you, I am 61 and just now experiencing this - Ugh!
Both shins and I think my right forearm but not as much there , only a few times - honestly, I'd forgotten about it til I read your post.
Hi,
I’m one and a half year post-menopause and I have the burning sensation in hands and arms, sometimes back, armpits and feet.
I’ve been doing tests and reading a lot but no diagnosis yet apart from hand osteoarthritis .
I think sun and/or hot weather exposure is a trigger and anxiety also play a role.
It’s driving me mad!
I have read about this on other forums but unfortunately the OP stops posting and don’t answer personal messages.
Let’s keep this thread alive until we find some answers, shall we?
Hopefully this will be sorted out soon. 🤗
Debra, I’ve been perplexed by this crap too. Mine seems to be amplified by anxiety, which is ironic since the burning sensation itself is what is making me anxious…! I’m 56 and 6 years post. Are you using any hormones? I wonder if falling Estrogen can be at least part of the burning culprit.
Marilou, I agree! Let’s keep this thread alive and share with one another what we learn. I, too, believe anxiety plays a role, but the burning sensation happens when I’m not the least bit anxious. The anxiety increases the sensation with me, however. It’s hard not to tune in to it!
Hi Roseburg,
I have read somewhere that when you have a panic attack or a skyrocketed anxiety level your brain can get stuck in that situation even when you feel the anxiety has gone. It seems that this is my own experience because the first time I had this burning/numbness/weakness sensation in both hands and feet I was anxious and very hot and probably dehydrated. Now it comes and goes but temperature definitely plays a role. It can be different for others, but what matters is that the brain associates the anxiety with that particular trigger.
I forgot to say that I also suffer from migraines and I have Ehlers Danlos Syndrome and Asperger’s Disorder which can play a role in the opera 😩.
Hi Roseburg - I am 61, 6 years post...interesting that it hit us both @ this juncture - I am not on any HRT, but after this doozy of a year am almost tempted. I am so tired of feeling like Caa Caa & every little thing sets my anxiety off - Can’t figure out the burning thing either because it seems to come on at night, when I am asleep & less anxious - I read somewhere on one of the posts that it is falling progesterone that causes it because progesterone is what protects the sheath covering the nerves???? I also seemed to be aching before an episode - I don’t know anyone who has been thru this hell & back except for the ladies on this forum - I guess we are the chosen few - Ugh!
That’s interesting Debra, because it happens sometimes during pregnancy where progesterone is supposed to be ultra high 🤔 I wonder if it’s not just the amount of hormones but the sudden drop or increase in progesterone and/or oestrogen.
