Burning thigh

over the past few weeks I have developed a burning feelig/sensation in my right outer thigh.......

Is this a normal FM thing or could it be down to something else

It's fibromyalgia Hunny ive started getting it all over my body and yesterday just on one leg feels hot like I been sunbathing it's werid I asked doctor it's normal part of fm.. ❤️❤️

Sounds a bit like the kind of pain you could get from a trapped  lateral femoral cutaneous nerve.?

If this is the case then a chiropacter may solve the problem faster than a doctor.

If you were Diabetic It's possible peripheral neuropathy could trigger this sensation in which case you may find the supplement ALA (alpha lipoic acid) may help as would going on a low carbohydrate higher fat diet.

Could also be a manifestion of Sciatica if you've ever had that?

it's a shame to put it down the Fibro if it's something you/your doctor could solve.

I was at the doctors and it's the neve endings she said its part of fibromyalgia we have learn live with it coz there no cure doctors don't even understand why we get this 💖💛❤️💕🌹🌹💐🌺

I don't have any problem being tagged with FM if that's what I have ! but I do have three prolapsed discs in my neck along with some spondylosis in the same area and in my lower back at L4-L5.

I don't remember having this type of sensation before.

The problem with the FM tag is the way people/medical staff just assume that the pain or problem that we are presenting them with is bound to be FM and not a bleed under the skin caused by a junior Dr pushing a canular straight through a vein into my thumb tendons.

more than likely i get it as well in my right and left thighs on standing for to long like someone has stab a dart in my leg . it just smarts and feels numb like a dead leg.surprised

If you search for this paper on PUBMED

"Is fibromyalgia a neuropathic pain syndrome?"

You will see there is some debate as to whether Fibro patients should or should not be regarded as suffering "neuropathic pain"

There is then a tendency to assume there is no treatment other than drugs and we know in practice this isn't necessarily the only or the best way to resolve chronic pain.

It's all to easy to believe absoluletly everything your doctor says and maybe the evidence doesn't always back up what they say.

As we know increasing vitamin D3 intake to 5000iu/daily and raising 25(OH)D levels to 125nmol/l or above achieves a reduction in Fibromyalgia symptoms then some of the pain sensations may be, to some extent, treatable.

if I'd believed everything my doctors told me I'd still be overweight, I'd still be getting regular UTI, I'd still be living in constant pain.

Sometimes we have to take responsibility for our own health and ensure we explore every possible avenue and not accept what the doctor is saying is the only option.

as i have said, i already know i have spinal injuries earlier in life. i have had injuries at L4-L5, T5-T8 and then C6-C3 with two of the cervical discs touching the spinal cord.

Given all of this i know that iam going to have a little trouble but i did not expect it this early.

i agree 100% i always thought doctor knew best i soon found out they didnt and paid the price several times.

since the net improved i took the chance to do my own research and have found out so much . so much i already thought myself just using common sense i found out it did have merit.

for along time now i use my gp as the last port of call not the first. at 50 they started sending me free health checks from my surgery straight in the bin ,requests for mammagrames straight in the bin

my gran and her mam my great granma both used to say if you want to stay well stay away from the doctors.i thought they were wrong.at the time.

my gran was 89 and my great nan was 91 when they died my great nan was cleaning the butchers floor the morning of the day she died . they belived if you ate well ,slept well, kept busy , you were on a good track for good health. i think they were right . take of your body nourish it rest it and move it and your on the right road ,

I never had thigh burning until hip replacement damage:  Femoral nerve damage and IT band damage...I had a lot of work on the thigh to loose the tight muscle but still have the burning and especially when Iburporfen wears off..

Everything is worse with my body since hip replacement in 2010...  I feared going into this as more trauma is not what my body needs.

Im yet to be diagnosed but I'm pretty sure I have fibromyalgia. Most days I have burning skin all over its  like I've been covered in deep heat rolleyes

I'm not sure of anyone else but I have pain everywhere with my hands and feet like I have a 12 sperson standing on them with regular shooting pains from the tips of my fingers and toes along the bones. also my back shoulders and neck up in to my scalp.

I've just had nerve block injections in to my scalp with the hope they relieve the pains in my neck.

Also started a course of Hyperbaric Oxygen treatment to assist with healing

Short answer.

Hips are a DEFINITE FM thing, but it could also be radiculopathy (radiating pain) from something in your Lumbar Spine or Sacral area..like a pinched nerve or whatnot.

Oh god bless ya sad that sounds really nasty! I've been getting pains in my fingers and knuckles the past couple of weeks and it hurts to push on them they are also quite stiff. Have it abit in my toes now too.my neck hasn't been too bad lately but I seem to hurt everywhere I touch rolleyes at the mo I have a heat pack on my ribs sad

Awww sweetie sounds like one of the symtons I no how you feel I get it it's weird like uou been sunbathing xxx

THAT is what they call widespread pain. And fibro also tricks our brains into intensifying pain, medically known as hyperalgesic. So a paper cut to a normal person can feel like a knife wound to a fibro sufferer..just an analogy.

The bizarre thing is how INCONSISTENT it is. One day I feel like a Rockstar and the next I feel like I fell out of a moving vehicle (minus the road rash). One day the cold burns my skin through my clothes, the next day it's fine. Same with sleep quality, energy.

And I'm one of those crazy people who completely changed my diet and is doing a one year detox deal and does yoga & all kinds of weird stuff/homework my naturopath gives me.

its a tough one to understand thats for sure.

You have meralgia paraesthetica. As Ted hutchinson on said, a lateral femoral cutaneous nerve compression or stretch. Try this, take blunt pin and start stroking the skin a few inches from the numb area. You should fell first a slightly numb area and in the middle a more numb area. I have known folks who have had this. It can come I believe from poor posture, stretching the nerve in front of the thigh, or similarly from putting on weight or being on yor feet too long.

At times an area in the femoral triangle will need to be injected. I myself would try and resolve it by taking care of the cause if it is one of the affore mentioned. Not quite sure what chiro would do mind you.

That is exactly what I have been feeling. I have been suffering a pain in my groin for weeks now but that pain seems to have been replaced by the thigh burning sensation.

Thanks James you are absolutely spot on

Hi everyone, I'm new here, so a bit unfamiliar with how things work! Just diagnosed with Fibromyalgia a fortnight ago and still reading up on it. I came across this post by accident but have experience of the burning pain. I have it regularly in both shoulders, thighs and calf muscles to date and it's horrible.Half expect my skin in the area to be red but it never is. Neurologist thought all this was MS, MRIs and other tests all squeaky clean. Has taken 4 1/2 years to get a diagnosis. This fibromyalgia has knocked me for six.
