Can anxiety and stress cause eye problems?

I noticed that my stress have been very high, which is of course not good. A lot of health anxiety, I also got diagnosed with IBS along with severe anxiety. I worry like...a lot..over everything. I noticed that my vision is blurrier than before, not like I can't see anything, just more blurry. I do have glasses. I also spend A LOT of time staring at the computer screen and phone screen. Im trying to stop my habit of going on my phone, at night with no lights on (just my bright screen light), before bed. Well, tonight, after looking at my phone, I began to drift off a little, like stare at the walls when I noticed these flashes thingys. Like it would happen every second or 2. It's very slight but since I pay so much attention to it, I see it more? My eyes don't hurt, they are a bit tired. I tried turning down my brightness and I guess it's helping a bit. Like I still see the flashes, but they are less? Sometimes these flashes happens for no reason. They're just there until I stop thinking or noticing them. My head was hurting a little because of my cold and cough. Of course, I had to go on Dr.Google again. But can stress cause these problems (I also have a bunch of digestive and cognitive issues, most likely due to months of stressing).

Hi katykat,

If you have possibly sinus congestion it can do that. When I had two really bad sinus infections I got a migraine. I had never had a migraine in my life. But currently now I could say my vision is a little more blurry I usually only have to wear my glasses to see something far away but now I am having to wear them to see things much closer. Not for reading but just to watch TV.

Yeah I can see very clearly when things are near, like I can still see my phone and computer screen without glasses. I woke up this morning, and so far, I don't notice any flashing, I tried to stare at a wall to see if there is any flashing but I don't see flashes like last night. I think it's probably due to bright light.

Migraine? I'm not sure of what that is, I think it's a headache? I sometimes have headaches, like sometimes it can be this very uncomfortable throbbing.

I'm also dealing with a runny nose AND stuffy nose at the same time. I literally have to sleep sitting up because once I lay down, I can't breath through my nose but sitting up would make my nose runny. My neck is stiff these mornings now.

Note sure if this helps you,but when i was suffering really bad with Anxiety & Stress, i had pressure/Pain behind my eyes, it kind of felt like my eyes were blurred but i could still see, (strange i know) initially i thought it could be a sinus infection which i have had many times before, very similar symptoms, it turned out to be my blood pressure, it was very high, which was causing pressure around my eyes/brain. ~how scary........

I never knew the stress my body was under from the emotional stress i had. Its scary stuff. Might be worth getting doc to check your blood pressure?

Good Luck

reading your post was very crazy for me. I've had the same exact issue you are having and it's been going on for over 10 months now. I've been to every kind of doctor you could think of. nobody can find anything wrong. But I can say that I have had a retinal hemorrhage twice in my right eye do to blood pressure spikes. the hemorrhages have left small blind spots in my field of vision that I really don't even notice any more. But the blurriness is really scary and I get a lot of anxiety over it. I'm really not sure if it's something to do with my blood pressure or if Stress and Anxiety is the culprit. if you'd like to private message me that would be great maybe we can help each other.

I don't feel pressure behind my eyes or even in my eyes? Like sometimes it can be heavy when I'm tired and sleep or hurt a little when I spend too much time looking at bright screeens.

I went went to the doctors and did those exams things like check your eyes, ears, mouth. They also always check my blood pressure and it's always normal. They do like 3 times because I tend to get really really really nervous, which increases my blood pressure, the first and sometimes second time.
