Can anyone let me know if after suffering from cellulitis you've experienced permanent swelling? I've recovered from the symptoms of cellulitis for some months now but my left leg seems bigger or of a different shape than my right leg. It's frustrating because I know the illness is out of my system so I'm afraid I now have permanent damage. Any tips, suggestions or relatable stories?:?

I'm afraid your leg will be a different shape for quite a while due to the damage from the infection and poor lymphatic drainage. I find the best solution is sit with your legs resting on a pouffe or a fairly high footstool when you can. I have fairly big legs anyway but I never sit without the ability to 'put my legs up'. One more thing be wary of air travel, I bought myself one of those blow up foot rests, bit like a ball, and keep my legs exercised and comfortable for the flight.

I had cellulitis at the new year 2006 and have now been wearing a surgical stocking for the last six months. this has reduced the swelling greatly.

hope this helps

Living in Spain where summer temperatures are very hot,( even before contracting cellulitis,) my legs, mainly ankles would swell quite badly. I have been clear of cellulitus since July 2005 thankfully, but I have been wearing airline knee stockings for just a couple of hours per day. This has really helped, and I have noticed that I do not have the "heavy" feeling in my legs now.

So I certainly would agree with the comment above.

I also hope this may be of help to you.8)

Perhaps you should check out the possibility that you hve developed lymphoedema in the affected leg: you can get help from your doctor or from the vascular nurse at your local hospital, usually in the form of graduated compression stockings. These won't do anything to stop you getting cellulitis again, but will help you feel more comfortable and keep wearing "normal" shoes.

I have had recurring bouts with cellulitis over the last several years. There is always a discoloration of the skin that remains after

the infection clears.

As far as the swelling,I have used pressurized support stockings which have virtually eliminated the swelling completely.
