Hello Im Jenalyn!!! My husband has hyperthyroidism and his taking Tapazole 5mg, We were planning on having a Baby but Im afraid if his medication can affect the Baby..Please I really need advise.

My name is Shelly and I am a nurse in the USA. I have Hashimoto's disease which is Hypothyroidism. However I know both sides of it well enough.
If your husband is on a short term use of Tapazole you may want to wait a few months and let him recover from it. It only slows the thyroid down. To my knowledge it does not effect sperm at all.
As long as you do not have thyroid disease all should be okay.

As long as he is on Tapazole he must avoid alcohol. It has a bad interaction together. Tapazole is usually used for a short term basis, to calm down the thyroid gland.

If he is on it to manage Grave's disease (a form of Hyperthyroidism) or Hyperthyroidism by itself, it can be used long term, but normally is used short term, and radioactive iodine is used if Tapazole does not help.
It would be contraindicated in women who are pregnant but not in Men. In a women it could pass into breast milk and the placenta.

Yes, it is safe to control the overproduction of Thyroxine in the body. You may want to speak to an Endocrinologist, this type of doctor knows the thyroid.
It of course is a drug to control Hyperthyroidism. If a woman takes it while pregnant it would cross into the placenta and into breast milk.
He needs certain good vitamins and minerals in his body and supplements can help. Exactly which ones is he taking?
