To preface this, I'm not on this for depression, just pain. I basically want to know if it's dangerous to come off it cold turkey. I really don't want to be on the stuff anymore, and if it's safe to come straight off of rather than gradually I'll do that.
Hello william. I wouldn't just stop taking it. Chances are it'll make you feel really unwell. You don't say what doseage you are taking but it is far better to decrease the doseage gradually so you don't go cold turkey. Just take it very slowly.
Sorry william just read you take 60mgms. Is that in one dose once a day or more? Still you should take it slowly
Gradually reduce the dose is the best way
It's 60mg in one dose at night. If it will just make me feel unwell I'm not especially bothered about that. Can it do any real damage though? If so, how gradual would the decrease have to be? The doctor had be go up 10mg every five days. Would the decrease have to be about the same or could I do it quicker? For instance could I go straight to say 30mg for a few days and then down to none?
Don't think it will do you any harm but you may feel unwell. Everyone reacts differently so you'll have to see how you get on. I would have them ready just in case you have symptoms you can't cope with on the first night.
Ok well I have them on hand just in case but I think I'm going to give it a go if it's not likely to do anything serious. I appreciate your responses, cheers.
I'll post how I get on tomorrow and then next few days in case anyone else is interested.
Good luck william. Hope you are ok.
I came off a Amitiyptyline (75mg) a few months ago i did it slowly, my Dr recomended me to cut down my dose bit by bit, then start halving the dose, she never said it would be dangerous to just stop, it didn't take long to stop completely. I wasn't on it for depression either, but i had some days when i was coming off i felt like total rubbish, If i had just stopped i might of failed and that was not an option for me, like you i was determined to stop. Good luck with coming off.

I came off 50 mg a day completely as they were not suiting me at all . I just stopped . I got really bad headaches. And an upset tummy and it was about 3 weeks before I felt ok ...it wiould gave been more sensible to take half for a week then 1/4 etc ...but I hope what ever you do it works for you
Hi William.
I am coming off of 60mg too.I have been trying to increase it to a therapeutic dose for depression but I have struggled with the side effects all the way through. I have been taking it for 5/6 months. My psch has told me to reduce by 10 mg every week. If you have been taking it longer than 4 weeks I wouldn't just stop it.
