I'm planning a trip to Antiquia in 4 weeks. I'm very afraid about flying n getting really bad again. If I take the betahistine 16mg 3 times a day, only should this stop the dizziness from happening on the plane. N within that 24 hr jet lag ? Or what else can I do ? We are taking my grandbaby n daughter n friends. So Im hoping to relax.
Oh Barry I am flying in a weeks time for the first time since I was diagnosed 1 year ago. I also take Betahistine. Would like to know anything to do also.
Could you check with your doctor to see if there is anything else that you could take as well? Definitely take Stematil/Buccastem in case you have an attack. I’m flying to New York later in the year and would be interested in any suggestions. Does the change in air pressure cause problems?
I take betahistine but under advice of my ENT have been gradually reducing the dosage to now 16 mg once daily.
I have my doubts that it’s been an effective deterrent for me. I’m taking Valium and Prozac which seem to be more helpful.
Drink plenty of water and I take a Sudafed prior to flying. For me if the barometric pressure changes more than .5 or so I feel different. Sometimes flying makes me actually feel better My bad ear will pop etc. good luck as we are all different and react different. Stay calm you should be fine
hey hunny I don't even have a clue I would check with my Dr because when I ride the car for a while it comes back so when I go from to from the emergency have put a motion patch behind my ear hope it helps so you can attend you trip
Hi there!
I hadn't flown since I came down with MD and was so scared to fly to Denver to see my sister. It was fine! I actually felt better in the higher altitude. No extra dizziness, ear fullness, tinnitus...nothing!
Like Bluesman said...hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. I really was shocked and pleased that I was fine.
Go with the family...relax and enjoy. You got this!
All the best,
~Mary
Hey Blazey, I know everyone is different, but I fly all the time and for extended and international flights and I have never had a problem. I take my meds as I normally do, which includes Betahistine 24 mg, plus a diuretic. I also bring some valium with me if I begin to feel dizzy I would have them to take. However, I have never taken any. I just returned from a 7 day cruise and had no problems. I would be extra careful about eating anything on the flight given how much salt they put in their food. Good luck and enjoy your trips. Greg
Your best defence is to be fully controlled by betahistine (increase dosage if necessary) before you travel and carry anti-emetics such as Buccastem and Stemetil in case you are unlucky and suffer an attack. I have flown with no problems on Betahistine alone so you should be OK. Good luck.
Thank You very much for you help 😍😍😍😍😍
