Can IBS make you feel unwell?

Just wondering for those who have been diagnosed with IBS when you have a flare up does it also make you feel unwell? As in, body aches, tired, like you’re coming down with a cold or something but without the ENT symptoms? Not referring to the gastrointestinal pains that go along with it.

If so, how long do you feel unwell for? And do you ever feel 100%?

Thank you.

Hi Kimberly,

I have CFS so can never be sure what condition is causing which symptoms but during a flare up I generally feel worse all over my body, like you say flu like without the ENT symptoms.

yes I get flu like symptoms  I have suffered with chronic sinusitis for years .  At first I thought these attacks were my sinus but non of the usual helping and then as you say it is like having the flu without the ENT symptoms.  Sometimes I would be cold and others burning up and I just had to sleep and there were times when I was so tired but unable to sleep.  Just had to go with the flow.  Then there's the stomach issues don't want food or afraid to eat food.  I have had then last for a morning or two or three days.

When my IBS started, it felt like a virus with feeling sick and the funny taste in my mouth.I didn’t really experience body aches or tirdness although some people do.

When my ibs flares up I can feel like I’m

Coming down with something like a cold.

I’m going through one now and I feel pretty shattered, aching and feel like I get strange head sensations, hot or cold plus the gut issues. Almost feels like a virus but I’ve also had it before where I’ve felt like my head cramps up and i get tingling on my scalp then I take ibs medication and feel a lot of relief.

Hi Kimberly, if your health is bad see your doctor if you think your symptoms have altered, it's possible you have a virus on top.

I get cold sweats, then a slight fever. It's generally an unwell feeling and all you want to do is sleep =(

Yes very unwell. It makes me feel weak and shaky and extremely tired. If I am ill here I go to bed. If at work I just try to stay awake. After 2 to 3 hours sleep I often start to feel better.

I thought I was the only one who gets the cold sweats as it is not a common side effect

Yes, we are never 100%.
i thought its only me but thank you, you answered my question instead.
