Awaiting to see a rheumatologist for back stiffness , neck abd shoulder pain, and hip pain , not sure wots wrong but my mum died of complications with m.s when she was only 38 years old , just wandering if m.s is hereditery or could my symptons b early signs of m.s I so hope not but cant help finking about it

Multiple Sclerosis is thought to be autoimmune, but there's no really In fact, in one study of 196 patients with AS, only 2 had MS.

Both diseases deal with T-cell issues......but then, many, many, many disorders involve T-cells, so at this point, that really doesn't say much.

Many of the scholarly articles about a possible association between the two diseases are fairly old, which leads me to believe that their conclusions may no longer be valid.

I don't believe there's a singular test to diagnose MS. If you're that concerned, you need to make an appointment with a neurologist.

That should have read:  " Multiple Sclerosis is thought to be autoimmune, but there's really clear evidence to validate that."

i read this a long time go...

Both MS and RA (and my own AS) are all thought by a lot of research to be related to a biological process in the body called molecular mimicry - where the body makes antibodies against an infection (google Epstein Barr virus for MS, and Proteus Mirabilis for RA, Klebsiella Pneumonia for my AS) - because these "invaders" carry a protein sequence that is similar to the tissues in some people the antibodies attack the self-tissues as well. in a person with a strong immune system the antibodies that are targeted against self - are hoovered up - the issue with autoimmunity is that the self antibodies are not deleted as they should be (google "colonial deletion" and apoptosis)
