Is it possible to have cataract at 27 YO without any other factor than being highly nearsighted ?
Yes, I have
25
Sorry to hear that. How did you notice it and what the doctors said about it ? I had it at 27 and i am feeling like i am the only one at that age to have it.
Reduced acuity + night time optic effects. Only one eye affected.
Actually I was diagnosed at the age of 23, but will have my operation next month.
What implant are you going to have?
I wonder what causes forming of cataract at such a young age? Is it genetics or something else? How much sun exposure do you have?
Sorry you have to deal with cataracts at that age. Your doctor give you any cause for the cataract? Is it affecting one eye or both? My own developed quickly - doctor thought it could be do to long use of steriod creams for eczema. Also had to take them orally 17 years ago for a condition.
There is lots of informative posts here in the forums. Take your time deciding which lens to choose and what your preference would be for distance you’d like to see best at.
What IOL do you have?
I chose Symfony EDOF(extended depth of focus). I see well at all distances from11 inches to distance however trade off is night vision. I see multiple concentric circles around certain light sources (traffic lights certain LED porch lights and car brakes when applied).
there are trade offs /compromises with any lens type so it’s best to inform yourself and decide which you’d rather.
Thanks. I'm going to choose either Acrysof or Tecnis ZCB00. Alcon is associated with glistening and Tecnis 1-piece has smaller usable optics. Hard choice.
Do you have to have both eyes done? Yes hard choice - I really struggled with it myself. There is a new EDOF lens in pre-trials by Zeiss atLARA. Will be interested in how thos compare to Symfony.
Sue.An, adamadam is a pilot, and I am intrigued by his previous comment: "I am obliged by law to take a monofocal, other lenses are not allowed (Europe)."
Pilots to maintain their pilot license I believe have to have a monofocal lens. Multifocal or EDOF lenses would compromise their night vision too much. Perhaps when there is a better lens that will change.
That would apply to pilots here in Canada too. Before I found this forum I got some good info from flyertalk forum and believe it or not the Disboards (I am a huge Disney fan). Most of the posts there were written by people who were happy with their results and questions were more about activities and how soon one could snorkel etc. When you get on this forum people post after their surgeries and something has gone sideways. Hard to get a balance of percentage of happy customers vs unhappy. I have kept mental note that those looking for info or advice prior to surgery are mostly pleased with results.
Yes, that's true jantje.
Only monofocals, at least in Europe.
Sue.An correct
I had the B&L Akreos AO.
I had very minimal sun exposure, it appeared one month after an argon laser for a peripheral retinal hole. In fact i had High myopia, the doctors don't now why it happened to me but they are linking that to my myopia.
Thank you Sue. As i answered before they are linking it to my myopia (-12 and -16), but in fact no clear reason. It was affecting both eyes. The surgeon has put the B&L Akreos AO set for distance.
Could that laser procedure been the cause of early cataract? The surgeon can usually tell if cataract formed due to trauma.
Didn’t realize you’d already had a lens replacement. How is the vision in that eye now? How is balance between the two eyes?
