Chronic leg pain that comes and goes?

hi, i’m 18, i have had really bad pain in my right leg for about a year and a half. it started last summer when i tripped over a step (didn’t even fall down, just tripped a little) and got this shooting pain in my whole leg.

it stayed for about a week and then went away, and ever since my leg has been hurting badly for about a week or so, it goes away for a few weeks (usually 2 or 3) and then comes back. the pain is really bad, to the point where i have a pronounced limp and can barely bend my knee. rest doesn’t help either, it’s just constant pain. it’s in my entire leg, so it’s not like i’ve pulled a muscle. but it’s started affecting my daily life. i’m not overweight so it’s not that, and i’m active enough (i try for 8k steps a day) but i don’t play any sports so it’s nothing that could’ve come from that. i have no diagnoses, i’m on no medication, i have no family history of anything. does anyone have a clue what it could be?

(i keep trying to tag joint pain but it keeps switching to arthritis sorry!!)

Hi,

If you haven’t seen anyone about this either at the time or especially now, that’s the first thing you need to do. Book an appt to see your GP. You can self-refer to the NHS physios on line for your area as well.

My advice if no joy from GP, if you can afford it, go and see a reputable Physio. They will probably be able to tell what it could be and what to do next. I warn you, it does cost proper money, but for me it’s the best money I ever spent. The other thing is, it may not be your leg, it could be referred pain from your back. I wish you luck & happiness

okay, thanks i’ll try to book a gp appointment! my sibling goes to physio so if there’s nothing from the gp i can always ask them to help me refer myself.
