On so it's day 4 of my codeine reduction. I was surprised how understanding the Dr was on Monday. I never take more than 8 cocodomol 30/500 a day. But it's the ibuprofen and codeine I introduced. I never used to take more than 6 a day for my pain. Like I said in previous posts that spiralled out of control and ended up taking 24 a day. Down to 10-12 a day now depending on when I wake. Due to the amount of daily codeine I take the dr has referred me to a methodone clinic as he said. If he gives me codeine phosphate, I may be tempted to take more. I have reservations about the methodone clinic as I have read that is more addictive. When I've reduced my codeine I will get prescribed tramadol . I take the codeine for extreme pain in my back due to slipped discs and wouldn't be able to walk without them. Just thought I'd post an update!
Well done on getting down to 10-12 day. You should be really proud of yourself. What would the benefit be of going to a methadone clinic? Especially when you go on to Tramadol. Would you gave to take methadone as a replacement for codeine?
Thanks Gill. Yes the methodone reduction programme would be used to ween me off codeine. When I'm clean of the poison 'codeine' he will give me tramadol. Although it acts like an opiate it's not addictive like the codeine!
Hi patchy I have been following your posts and I want to say I admire your resolve, you are brave and inspirational to other people logging on this site with your honesty and bravery.
Well done and a big hug as it must be hard xXxX amanda
Hi Amanda. Thank you so much. I'm glad it helps others. I will continue to post on my journey through this horrible addiction and reduction of codeine. I have to admit it is very hard. And I can empathise with others with the same addiction. Every bodies comments are very much appreciated. Thanks again
latchy xx
Still can't believe I've cut my codeine intake by 128.8mg
Hi latchy well done for getting down to 10 tablets a day. I am going to show my hubby your posts and hope it will help him to go see his doctor. Keep up the good work and take care
Thank you so much. Yes show hubby my posts and hope he will get help from the Dr. I didn't plan on telling mine Monday morning, but just came out with it. He was very understanding and said I'm not alone and I will get the help I need.
Good luck and let me know how you get on
You're doing great! Well done and thanks for sharing. I'm confused. I've recently switched from tramadol to codeine and thought tramadol was addictive. I'm also planning to gradually reduce my codeine. Thanks.
Hi Tessa. Thank you for posting. To be honest I could take or leave tramadol. I didn't find it as addictive as cocodomol. After having a bad cold I'm back on the ibuprofen and codeine 12.8 mg and taken 15 throughout the course of the day. I only take 8 cocodomol 30/500 a day. It's really ruining my life. Good lunk at reducing, I wished I'd have done it years and years ago, before I got addicted. I'm now going to phone narcotics aynonymous Out of of desperation. I hate this addiction. I'll continue posting and let you know how I get on.

All the very best. It will be good to hear how you are doing
I've made the first step and phoned Narcotics anonymous. They've recommended I go to my nearest meeting ASAP
Thanks so much for updating. That's good to hear. You are an inspiration
We'll done Scoop. The first step has been taken and wish you all the luck for the future!
hi, please do not take Tramadol, contrary to what you might be told they are higly addictive- they have recently been reclassified in the US as a result of the problems people have coming off them. visit the forum on Tramadol on this site and you will see how many people struggle with to get off this drug- i am currently 20+ days off Tramadol - it was a nightmare- i have been de-toxed from alcohol and from codiene and the tramadol withdrawls were the worst - 20+ days clean and i am still battling with this drug- dont take my word for it check it for yourself -many Doctors do not know enough about the drugs they prescribe- look up the no of a local addiction or treatment centre and ask them about the addictive properties of Tramadol - Do Not take this drug
Well done for being clean and hope it's getting easier by the day. I've been a private detox and rehab centre in the past for alcohol too, in fact 4 times! And it's taken me 20 years to realise I can't drink alcohol at all Been clean from that for 2years. However chlordiazepoxide relieved the withdrawal syptoms for that detox. Personally I found nothing about tramadol helpful for pain at all! I've got 500 in the cupboard and don't touch them. I took them with cocodomol 30/500 for about a year, when I realised they weren't helping I just stopped taking them. No nasty withdrawals or anything. Maybe taking 60mg codeine 4x daily alleviated that.
