Coming off Anti-Depressants

i have been on anti depressants for around 25 years non stop, i have had all off the ssri meds with various affects at max dosage. Seroxat seemed to work well for me but i needed to increase it more and more to dull the symptons of depression, for the last 4 years i have been on venlafaxine.i have been lazy with taking them and ended up suffering bad withdrawel symptons after missing days, i have taken them regular for last 6 months (i.e every day) but if i miss or are late i get the crazy vivid dreams, headaches etc. i still suffer very low times, anxiety at various times but also have some manic days. i want to come off after 25 years of toxis addiction as it affects my sexual ability which i am sick of, sick of being on thsi for so long. i know i will get some terrible depressive times but feel i could cope, and be more aware of aggesion,OTT behaviour, fear of death and hopefully stop it or cope better. i need to come off to feel normal again as dont want this, venlafaxine 300, how long to get off? i came of seroxAT in 5 days to be mistakenly prescribed citoplam which was sh*te at the highest does but venlafaxine has so many side affects.

Hi Peter, I would see your GP as coming off AD is a long process that needs supervision especially after so long taking them. Only your GP can recommend this, be very careful and go the right way about it, you may have become addicted too. Have you tried Counselling or therapies as you may need something to replace the meda. Hope this helps. Good luck.

Hi Peter thats a sad story and nightmare of issue that you have gHypnotherapyrough.

You must seek proper help through your GP or a Specialist to come off these drugs slowly.

I would recommend that you seek further help eg. Counselling / Hypnotherapy / Reki courses or some discussion groups.

Wishing you all the support, good luck.

Alexander.

Hello Peter, sorry to hear about your history of antidepressants and also understand how you feel. I have been on and off them most of my adult life and like you decided when I was feeling a bit better to try and come off them? I have been on venlafaxine for many years now and it was the only one that has helped me. I was on 225mgs, then 150, and now 75mg, when I first took reduced dose I ached and hurt so much and was even tested for rhematoid arthritis as symptons were so alike . Then I saw my usual dr who explained reducing dosage of venlafaxine does cause these symptons, just wish previous dr had told me this?

Persevere my friend as these symptons have now gone, I still have bad days and wish to stay on this dose 75mg before I think I'm well enough to lower to 37.5 mg. you will get there, I am here if you need to talk my friend
