coming off citalipram

i have been off citalopram for 6 months now and still suffereing side effects has this happened to anybody else

It does happen.  Depends how quick you withdrew from them.  The first time I came off these I had withdrawl for many months, and the second time I came off I spent a year doing it and withdrew by 5mg at a time and had no withdrawl at all.

The effects will wear off in time.  It did for me the first time.

Hey Rangers. What kind of side effects are u experiencing? I've been off Cit for 3 weeks today and wow. This Stuff is nasty. Feel horrible!!! Just seems my brain is going wild!!!!!!! Been doin some reading and apparently this can go on for a few weeks or a few months. Zthe only saving grace I have is I exercise daily which is helping a bit!!!!!!

thanks for yoyr reply i was weaned of over a 3 month period through my doctor go back tomorrow to see her fed up

brain zaps dizziness and my balance is awful havnt been anywhere in 6 months no holidays cant even drive my car sick of it back to doctors tomorrow good luck john059

hi,  this is interesting, ive been off of citilopram completly for about a month, i didnt think inham any side effects, but have fallen 4 times during and after the build off. also, put on about 4 kilo's ,but on the positive side,  wake up feeling clear and ready for the day. and feel happy,  an look forward to events and enjoy being myself again

Its still to quick to come off meds if you want to avoid withdrawal.  These meds take a long time to work and so it'll happen the other way too.  Coming off slowly and with minimal decreasing doses not only avoids withdrawal but isn't a shock to your body which stops the symptoms from reapparing.

If you're seeing your doctor you could either reinstate a small amount of Citalopram ie 5mg going up to 10mg after a month, staying on it and then withdrawl properly, or continue as you are because the withdrawal effects will cease eventually.

Let us know how you get on with your doc.

i am still glad i am off them icejan cant wait till all these side effects leave me and get back to normal just so fed up at the moment and thanks for your reply x

I have been off for 8 weeks now, but still crying every day, and lashing out  at people, very irritable.

What side effects do you have?

brain zaps its like electric shocks i am unbalanced dizziness are the worst ones

This drug is something that the doctors have to study more. Especially with the side effects and all. Absolutely horrible both while youre being introduced to and getting off Cit!!!! Will never ever take these again. I'm prepared to go at it until the side effects go away. I also took Effexor prior to Cit and I wasnt educated on AD's at all. I now know enuff to know what is helping and what isnt. Fortunatly my Doctor is not a pill pusher and she is educated on what she does prescribed. Stick to it Rangers. It will get better!!!!!

thanks jon059 no matter how i feel in the future will never take another antidepressant inm my life.cant be much longer before side effects go say that to myself every morning x

Thank you Ranger 3131, I also have been off Citalopram for 6 months and I am still suffering from the side effects.  I thought I was the only one who was still suffering.  Wish I knew how to get the side effects to go away.  I am too old for this nightmare and I just want it to go away!  Any ideas Welcome!

Hi Stephany. How long were you on this drug? I started on thid drug in Jan/15 and worked my way up to 40mg's. Never did feel good on it so I decided to reduce and get off Cit on 22 Sept. reduced the smart way and took my last 5mg dose 3 weeks ago. Still have dizziness and other side effects. Sleeping better though!!!!!!

Hi  John, I took 20mg for 4 years. I cut the 20 in half in August and totally stopped in September.  I heard it took about 90 days to be free of it, so I figured by Christmas I would feel great.  I was wrong!  The dizziness is still there and so is the fatigue.  I read the other day that it took a lady 10 months to be totally free of this stuff!

Holy moly. This stuff is really wicked. Will never ever go back on it. But it dies work for some people. Good for them. Not gonna have a pitty party but I sure wished I was one of them. Lol. Stick to ur plan!!!!!

a lady told me it was a year before she felt any better so i have 6 months to go if i am the same what a thought forgot to mentionn the tierdness its brutal

Hi I have been on citropram in the past and have come off them by using a dropper with no problem

Hi your dose was very small and if you are still having side effects that's strange.

its a numbing drug and one of the worse SSRIs on the market, I put on 2 stone! And was glad to get off it.
