Since being on mirtazipine I've gained 10kg!
I'm currently on a dosage of 45mg at night. From tonight 17/05/17 I'm going to take half (22.5mg) for the next week. Then half again (11.25) for a week. Then go cold turkey.
My doctors are not helpful and I've been asking to come off mirtazipine for 2 months. They just keep saying that I need to wait for the referral to the psychiatrist. Which could take up to 6 months. I really can't risk the current weight gain I'm on. I don't fit in any of my clothes and I am so self conscious. It makes me cry all the time. I feel so fat and ugly.
Will keep you updated. Anyone think I'll have really bad withdrawals? I'm so angry that I was put on medication that would give me withdrawals. I would never have taken this if I had known the weight gain or that it can be hard to come off.
Hayley
be carefull thry say drop 10% at a time over 3/4 weeks
Not knowing what your original reason for going on was I can assume it may have been due to insomnia. I quit taking it two days ago and my insomnia came back big time. I may try 3.5 mg tonight to get back my sleep. This sucks! I'm
I was put on it for anxiety that was keeping me up at night.
I really don't want to be on it anymore. What would happen if I was just to quit it completely?
I'm pretty sure your anxiety and insomnia would return within a day. I hate to say it but that's what happened to me the last two days. I tried to just quit and my insomnia came back. Totally not liking insomnia- going to try 3.5 mg tonight . Hopefully that will work
Hi Hayley,
Sorry to hear you are having a bad time with Mirtazapine.
Its a political disgrace against the Tory Party that British people have to wait so long for things on the NHS like six months to see a shrink.
Mirtazapine seems to be a drug that is readily prescribed , often does not fix things but then leaves you to cope with withdrawals and side effects.
The bottom line is that you are in effect on your own if you have mental health problems. GPs just seem to guess at solutions. Good luck with your withdrawal strategy
HI notthatginger. mirtazapine is used for alot of reasons or conditions . ime not going to mention them all but if you are adamant on coming off mirtazapine keep a close eye on your condition when you do. because you can sink back into your problem again very easily and more often your symptoms come back . weight gain on mirt is imminent but by doing light exercise every day eg walking or anything you like to do in the way of exercise is good and you will find that you start to lose weight again its worked for me and ime on 45mg and i find it's not a problem for me slowly building up your exercise over time . but do not just stop taking mirt altogether if you are dropping mirt doses do it slow and keep an eye on your condition at the same time . also it's a good idea to keep a health log book writing things down how things change while dropping medication doses . hope the info was helpful and wish you well.
I know you want to be off this, me too, and drs are useless with advice. I did not know about horrid withdrawal or wouldnt have taken it. Weight gain driving me mad. Be extra cautious if you can when dropping, all advice on this site is great and most success comes with slow reduction. I cant get below 7.5, my friend cant get below 3.75, sleeping just goes berserk.
So I phoned my GP surgery. And told him my plan and he's prescribed me 30mg for the next week starting tomorrow and then 15mg the following week and then off it completely. He believes I should have any sort of withdrawals this way? Which seems to go against what has been said on here. But I guess you wouldn't be posting in the forum unless it wasn't going well. Maybe the majority don't have a problem? I'll keep this thread updated with how it goes. Hopefully there won't be a problem.
Hi Nottthatginger - sorry to read of your situation. Reduce your intake of mirt gradually. I would give 2-3 weeks between each change. I have been on mirt for years and have read some disturbing stories about those who have tried to come off it. I know I will have to follow your path sooner or later, so please keep us all posted on how you are going. The weight gain you have experienced should diminish. Good luck.
Hi Notthatginger.Just make sure you taper gradually as I was put On Mirt about 14 weeks ago Starting at 5mg going up to 30mg 8weeks ago(15 morning,15 night) along with being put on Gabapetin starting at 200mg than up to 400mg then 600mg. over the same period. However they were weaning me off of Paxil which I had been taking twice a day for 20 years(20mg) so I'm still adjust to all the changes and it's really rough.I'm in the U.S. so I can see a psy/doc fairly quickly(about 2-3 weeks).Hope all works well and hang in there.God Bless You.
It's been a week now, just been down to 30mg not really had any symptoms... don't know if I would going from 45-30mg but tomorrow I'm down to 15mg.
How is the withdrawal going. I am searching for advice to get rid of 7.5mirtaz. It isnt helping my anxiety and depression, dr says its because its roo low but if i go upi feel worse. I want to ditch it but insomnia is troublesome if i do. Have you got below3.75 yet?
hi, have you tried to get off mirtaz in the past, if so how did it go? I am being told to go up by psych as I have depression brought on by anxiety. I really dont think its done anything for me, at 30mg was very anxious but zapped. Now down at 7.5 i am depressed and taking diaz for anxiety. I dont know what to do.
I've now been on 15mg for a week. No symptoms at all. This is now my first night not taking mirtazapine. And I can't sleep at all. All I want to do is take it. I feel really sick (which is the main symptom of my anxiety) and it's stressing me out. As a vomit phobic it's really hard to cope with. I just want to sleep and feel better!
Hang in there! It should get better as this is only your first night.Praying for you! God be with you and God Bless You! Bob
Day 1 - no problems
Day 2 - no problems
Day 3 - major nausea beyond my normal and nothing seems to make it go away.
Day 4 - hard to eat as I'm so nauseous
Note: I suffer from chronic nausea due to my anxiety but this just feels worse as lorazepam and anti sickness tablets don't take it away.
feeling hopeless
There are many reports of people trying to get off this. Too many. There does seem to be a way round it which is by gettig iqd to reduce. Might help if you could look into it. I am at 7.5 and not well, but cant budge.
Now that I'm off it I really don't want to be back on it! I'm just going to persevere.
Good for you, do keep posting to let us knowmhow you are. Hope a better day today for you
