Confused

Hi everyone,

Not sure if anyone can help but I'm really confused about my situation.

I went to see my gp about a lump in my throat and was referred to hospital. I had an ultrasound which showed a goitre inside my thyroid gland and several nodules on top of the thyroid. I had a fine needle biopsy and was sent for blood tests.

My gp said my blood tests had come back as T3 high, TSH low and thyroxine normal.

With the biopsy they said it looks benign but they are not sure because there was too much blood on my samples.

I'm now being referred to the endocrine department as I am apparently borderline?? They have said they won't look at removing the goiter even though it is causing my voice to go dry. I now have to wait 8 weeks to go back for another fine needle biopsy. I tried to get some sense out of my gp but even she seems confused about what is going on.

Can anyone help?

shute i feel very sorry for you, if i was in your case maybe go to another GP? get a second opinion.

tHello Claire,I really feel for you gp's are really not equipped to deal with thyroid problems but from what you say I would think you are far from borderline & should have been sent to see an Endo straight away. Most people with thyroid problems are not being treated properly & you need to help yourself by reading up on Thyroid & learning all you can. There is a very helpful group on Facebook called Thyroid Problems UK-Patient to Patient Advice & Support, they are all people with problems like you are having Or they have worked their way back to health & there are people who can read your blood test results & can guide you to ask your GP the appropriate questions. In my opinion the people on there have helped me more than any Dr I have seen in the last 10 yrs. There is a wait to join but well worth it.Hope this helps.xx

Thank you for the advice. I will have a look on Facebook and try to research it. It's all a bit confusing because I don't know what type of thyroid condition I'm supposed to be borderline or not.

The hospital just seem to pass me from one department to the next and every time I see a doctor at the hospital they always seem to say the opposite of the last doctor!

I'm a bit of a worrier at the best of times and have just had an appointment come through for another biopsy for 30th October which seems like a massive wait. I would really like to know if it is cancerous or not but no one seems able to give me a straight answer! Xx
