I have been suffering from earache on a daily basis for the last 3 months. The attacks can last in duration lasting from around half and hour to up to around 4 hours and can affect either my right or left ear (although not both at the same time). The type of pain feels as though it is pressure related and I have a feeling of 'fullness' within both my ears. I am also experiencing occaisional light headedness although this is not severe. I have not experienced any hearing loss.
My GP originally thought it was just a regular ear infection at first and prescribed me Amoxicillin and eardrops which have had no effect whatsoever. Finally I was referred to the ENT hospital who have carried out several tests and cannot find anything wrong, saying the ear canal looks normal. I am now scheduled for a MRI scan but the waiting time is several weeks.
I am self employed and am unable to work at the moment. The ENT's view is that it will get better on its own but there has been no sign of any improvement.
I have tried to do some investigation myself as to what it might be but the fact that the dizziness is only slight and that I have not experienced any hearing loss would seem to rule out a lot of the usual suspects.
The best fit with my symptoms seems to be Meniere's or Labyrinthitis but the lack of hearing loss and only mild dizziness would seem to rule these out ...... or would it?
Grateful for any advice or from anyone else who has had the same problem.
Stephen
