Constant headaches

Hi all

I've been on citalopram on and off for around 10 years now. Have been back on this time round for about a year, I find the tablets good mostly, but for the last fortnight I've been getting headaches every day. It's really getting to me now, don't want to keep taking other tabs to deal with the headaches.

Has anyone else been experiencing this?

Thanks x

Hi ally. I'm only on 5 mg now going on 5 weeks, no headaches just anxious and fatigued, very tired all day. Been told this will subside, sure hope so because my anxiety goes higher because I'm so fatigued all day long! Hope your headaches go away.

So hard to deal with chronic pain...if you have any other symptoms associated with headache you should let your doctor know...also keep hydrated...good luck to you

I was getting headaches and also dizzy.

Thanks all. I think I'll go back to the doctrs and mention it xx

Hi Ally,

I sympathise most sincerely with you.  I too, had been taking citalopram for several years, gradually increasing the dose until on 20mg.  In the past two years I experienced headaches every day. I spoke to my doctor who suggested paracetamol.  Didn't really help. Can't think why I carried on so long -eventually being woken every the morning by the pain in my head.  Headache all day too. When I tried to get an answer as to why I had the headache I was told that my blood tests were normal and then "if you've had this so long and you're not dead yet - there is no problem" !!!???

However, in November last year the chemist changed the medication to a generic brand (I had been taking Cipralex) - which caused me to become extremely anxious, tearful and quite amazingly angry - it was as if they didn't work at all and felt like I had stopped medication abruptly- with horrible effect.

I saw the doctor and asked to be taken off the med- and was given the brand drug to taper off slowly. This helped the anxiety etc and MIRACULOUSLY - after two years of constant pain - the headache went away and has not returned. I felt as if I had woken after an appalling nightmare. I have my life back.  Hooray!

Please do not wait as long as I did.  If it is the citalopram then the solution should be easy to find.

Take care and hope all goes well for you.
