Sensación constante, extraña y 'fría' en la garganta y el paladar... ¿alguien más tiene esto con el reflujo?

Hi all

For a long time now I have been experiencing the oddest sensation and I am not sure if it is to do with acid reflux. I have a very cold, almost 'minty' sensation in my mouth all the time. it feels like the sensation you have when you breath in after cleaning your teeth, or after sucking a strong mint. My throat and roof of mouth feels cold - not irritated - just cold and tingly.

I have had problems with reflux in the past and have been on proton pump inhibitors. I am not on a prescription at the moment. i have had an endoscopy and was diagnosed with acute gastritis about ten years ago. I often get heartburn and indigestion.

I have mentioned this top my GP who looks at me like I am mad and says he has never heard of it.

However, I am not imagining it, and wondered if this odd symptom was shared by anyone else with reflux.

I am a lady of a 'certain age' ....smile..... and I have read on the net that this odd sensory change could have something to do with hormonal changes at menopause. Just trying to rule everything out, so would be grateful for any input.

Thanks

Hello, yes I have had exactly the same time, not burning like reflux, more like swallowing a load of tooth paste, very weird, sometimes gives me a headache , I thought it was fluoxentine meds so I stopped taking them but its still there three weeks later x

Sarah

Hello,

I have got exactly the same feeling for about a fortnight now. By the way, I am a man, 28 years of old .. so I believe, it has got nothing to do with the gender Is there any update on the symptom now please? I have not consulted any GP as yet. One thing we all have in common is a history of indigestion.

Regards,

Juggy

Hello! I know this is over a year after you posted this, however as it has been left unanswered I believe it's worth answering. The likely cause of this is Laryngopharyngeal Reflux (LPR). Since you said you are currently not on proton pump inhibitors (PPI), but have been on them in the past, it is likely that your gastroenterologist had seen signs of LPR and prescribed these. Nearly 60% of all people with LPR do not suffer from classic signs of Acid Reflux that are commenly seen in patients with Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD), such as heartburn. Please check in with your doctor about this if you haven't, as LPR can lead to serious if not fatal complications. I am not a medical professional, so do go to your doctor. Cheers!

Leslie, you have probably figured it out by now, but just so you know I'm also menopausal and experiencing the same thing. Probably something to do with hormones.

Yes, I have a same problem that started recent about 6 weeks ago and it releases cold air minty from mouth. Cold air affects mouth, throat, ear and nose, nostrils, pharynx, larynx, tube in esophagus. Please Tell me a cure.

It fills cold air in all those parts.

Hi Lesley, I had a Dr appt today with the same symptoms as you thinking it was acid reflux. In telling Dr the symptoms, it was confusing to him. He is sending me for stool samples to determine if there is a bacteria in my stomach. He also prescribed Omerprazole 20mg to use for 14days & if no improvement he will send me the scope test.  I was wondering if you had a medical diagnosis regarding this. Please advise. Thanks, Joyce

Wow! Glad I’m not alone with this. I too have been experiencing the same exact symptoms. I tried explaining it to my boyfriend and he assumed it had something to do with my acid reflux. I haven’t seen the doctor yet, but do have an appointment scheduled. This started happening for about 2 weeks now off and on. I don’t have it all the time. But it is as though I was sucking in a cough drop and have that menthol “cold” sensation on the roof of my mouth and back of throat. Very odd. And what’s even more odd is I noticed it after I tried changing to a vegan diet, so I was drinking a lot of water and eating lots of fruits, particularly blueberries. I don’t know if I over did it with the fruit and ate too much citrus? Nonetheless, it’s very uncomfortable. Not painful, just weird. I’ll post a follow up once I get some answers.

I have the same symptoms.

I have seen the Dr.  who has never heard of such symptoms.

It is not GERD, at least in my case.

Doing much research i have concluded that there is a possiblity of a problem with eating to much fermented food.

I eat yogurt, and kimchi, and drink a moderate amount of kombucha.

I am wondering if any of you who have these symptoms are also eating fermented or drinking fermented foods?

TIA

Yes i have same thing happen to me.

Yes i have that same symptoms for past month.Im ask the fibromyalagia doctor about it hoping he help me find out what this is.

Its been freaking me out I haven't scheduled an appointment but will ask my primary Dr when I go next month hopefully nothing serious😒But was wondering can fibromyalgia cause this?? Ice been thinking I have this Ice been having the symptoms A lot lately and would really like to know... Hope everyone finds out and we all get an answer... 😘❤💚💜💙

Wow, glad I found  you folks.  Have the same problem -- feel like someone put VICKS on my tongue!  50 yr old male with no acid reflux.  I cannot smell or taste hardly anything -- has anyone else experienced this?

Hi! I’m experiencing this too. I haven’t changed anything regarding my diet or anything else really that I can think of ... also I’m a 16 year old female and have had no history of reflux or anything? This is very confusing ahaha

5 years later and I'm wondering if anyone has figured this out. Does anyone take Claritin D regularly? I'm also using invisialign. Just trying to think of things that may cause the cool sensation on roof of mouth. I'm now getting a pain there too.

I've been getting it for about 6 months now, my guts are sensitive maybe it is stemming from that. I also get electric shocks why falling asleep sometimes hits like lightning and I'll either jumps pretty much off the mattress or it feels like I'm being slammed down through my bed and I have to try as hard as I can to get out of it, I get some sleep paralisys with it. freak me out. Anyways there doesn't seem to be any definite answers on either. I'm gonna try a detox and flush my body out see if that helps. our sky's are getting really hazy, there's constant haze when i look to wards the mountains and it seems to be getting worse every year. Especially this year. have gotten a cold 4 times in the last 5 months which last 3 weeks. Probably from all the planes in the sky leaving all that nasty stuff behind them. I'd be curious to know if any of your suffer from the same sleep issues. The sleep thing for me only lasts a few nights than I won't get it for a month, and sometime I will get it just sitting around watching tv. Any one else gone to about our extra fresh breathe?

Ive been getting the same thing in the past few months. Im not sure if any of you experience any other neeve issues but if you do maybe that might be causing it. I got a lot of things going on and its got me pretty mentally on edge.

Hey peeps, Crazy how u can find pretty much anything on the internet!! Glad I'm not alone in feeling this unusual sensation.. I really can't understand what it could be I be, I don't suffer acid reflux. I'm 27 n male btw so it's definitely not gender bias.. i haven't consulted a GP as of yet.. but anyways this may seem silly but I drink a lot of herbal peppermint tea, is this something we all have common ? Just a thought 🤔.

Got the same thing right now!!  Wondering myself what the heck this is.  I have been having very active acid reflux (for the first time), going on almost three weeks now.  Getting scoped thursday!!!  Did you ever discover what that sensation is?  I am also perimenopausal.
