I can imagine how a pessary works holding up a cystocele but if you have a rectocele as well how can both be supported at once.
I believe it's called a Gelhorn pessary. It was mentioned to me but as sex is impossible with it in place it was not something I wanted to try.
When you see the size of the pessary, at least the ring one I had, you'll see how! It was huge, I didn't stick with it because it made the leaking worse, I couldn't feel it though and it did push everything up and back into place!!
Oh I had better not work when I have the gellhorn put into place. Was bad enough with the rings,
As far as i know I have only a rectocele. Doc tried a ring pessary and it just fell straight out lol. I never understood how it coukdoes have helped a rectocele. ...have my first consultant appointment in a week to decide what surgery I'll need. Sooo excited! Just can't wait to get it all sorted! Hope you get sorted soon 😊
That should read look not work. I couldn't find anywhere on the message to edit it.
Hope all goes well. Please keep us updated...
I feel any pessary or ring is just prolonging the inevitable = surgery. Better to just get on with surgery as things only get worse. A pessary or ring isn't going to strengthen anything, they are just making day to day life a little more bearable, while waiting for necessary surgery
I'm hoping to get my appointment through soon so have to wait and see if an op is offered at this stage.
Robyn - I think it's unwise to say "things always get worse" not everyone necessarily needs or benefits from surgery. All surgery has risk and we are all aware of the high failure rate.
Taff1234 - We are all different, take advice from professionals don't rush into making a decision.
Hi I tried, a number of different pessaries ( ring, shelf, cube) now have the gelhorn which works well for me.
I had hysterectomy in 2014 and anterior repair. Now have further prolapse and need repair to perineum, possible op next year.
I am 58 and can take it in and out ok myself, so can still be sexually active.
Still get sore if I am standing for too long but I can walk, swim and be fairly active, just need to pace myself. Without the pessary in place I am really uncomfy.
hope you get sorted

I have been told that the hospital will put the pessary in and take it out so won’t need to do it myself.
I had a ring pessary fitted by my consultant, she took it out too. I'm sure I could have done it but mine was one that stayed in all the time.
That’s sounds like the one that I am getting fitted.
Hello ladies. I think my repair has just failed, after only 6 months, and am considering my options. Do any of you know if these rings etc can be used if you don't have a cervix? I don't think I can face further surgery as it all seems pointless and unlikely to last for me anyway. Thanks and sending hugs x
I think the one I’m getting put in will stay in for 6 months.
