Hi all, diagnosed proctosigmoiditis,uc,a year ago after colonoscopy. Been on pentasa slow release tablets 3grams and pentasa 1gram enema at night. In remission quickly for several months and reduced meds to 2gram pentasa tablets daily. Recent small flare hence upped meds to 3gram tabs and 1g enema at night. Flare subsided but I get horrendous abdo cramping on almost daily basis. My question: should I be getting so much pain in remission? Wondering if it's the oral pentasa? Do you think a nightly enema would be enough to keep in remission? Anyone else get daily pain whilst in remission? Really getting me down now, thanks all
Hi jill18833
Sorry to hear you're suffering. I am new to this as well (diagnosed with uc last August after a serious flare). I take 2mg Pentasa every am and 1mg before bed (currently in remission but still experience some bleeding) and I too suffer lower abdominal pain, perhaps not every night but certainly more often than I'd like! I saw a consultant back in Jan and when I mentioned it, he said some of the time it's an unfortunate but expected symptom of uc even when in remission.
I think if you're particularly worried, speak to your GP or consultant.
Hope things start looking up soon.
Thank you Madge, another question! What do people take for reliable pain relief? Paracetamol don't touch the pain when it's bad and co codamol make me feel a little woozy? Just wonder if the Pentasa is causing pain as it's listed as a side effect? Any comments gratefully received as I find the pain hard to deal with some days, thank you all
I find a hot water bottle perfect
Thank you Filbyvic,I do use a microwaveable wheat bag when indoors but need something to relieve pain when I'm out and about, will try curate at packs next I think. Maybe I've been misled but I thought once in remission abdo pain would diminish but I seem to be getting them every second day, anyone else with so called moderate uc in remission getting a lot of pain? Really anxious right now that something else is going on? Thank you all
Anyone here in the Whitstable area that would like to compare notes?
I agree with filbyvic- I find a hot water bottle to be a huge help
Thanks all, will try curaheat packs when out and about! Do you get a lot of pain even in remission??
