Décision prise !

I asked for your thoughts on spinal or general yesterday and it certainly helped me decide. So the pre-op appt went very well and when asked, I was confident to choose spinal with some sedation. The nurse said I'd made a good choice, she had it herself for a knee replacement and spoke highly of the benefits.   Turns out i'm  not even having removable stitches, my surgeon uses a contniuous thread and steri-strips - hope they're big ones! Only 2 weeks to wait now.

Thanks again!

Aww glad you feel more confident about spinal good luck and speedy recovery

I'm so glad your appt went so well.  All the best to you.  I'll be having mine Nov. 17 I'm getting to the point now where I cant wait.  We'll have to definetly share our stories!  Keep in touch, Mary

Hi Margaret

I was very  undecided and wanted a general anasthetic as I  was scared I would wake up but I got sedation and cant remember anything until I woke up in recovery . Didnt have the sick feeling that Ive had before with GA so I would definetey reccommend . Hope all goes well !

hi margaret,

I am really happy for you ... to have made the decision and feeling good about is, is so important -

2 more weeks ---

well you now what to do when you have any questions or concerns, right ?

big warm hug

renee

Good for you Margaret, great decision, you sound very positive, which is always a good sign.

I had also chosen spinal with sedation. I remember nothing from the time I said good-bye to my family until I woke up in recovery.

I also had the same type of stitches.

The only problem I had was the steri strips took a long time coming off (almost 3 weeks.)

The doc said to take them off so before I let my sister in law take them off, I rubbed an ice cube over it and she pulled them off without even a pinch.

I'm 1 1/2 years out. It has been a long journey but it was well worth it!

Good luck to you!

Hi miele55255ch

It's nice to find someone with a very similar procedure and such a positive happy outcome, thanks for that....It means a lot with only 10 days to go till the Big Day!

I agree Margaret it sure does make me feel good.  Mine is Nov 17  Good luck with your day and keep us posted!

Thanks so much for that - I can't believe how far you walked and so regularly, you must have been very fit beforehand? Quite shocked to read about your revision operation, hope that is very rare?! Wishing you all the best for your active life - brilliant!

I certainly will keep in touch, M1954! I think this site is  amazing at preparing you for what's to come, but in a really positive way - mostly! Good luck to you too - just think, I will be 2 weeks in when you have yours!

My complication is very rare - trust me to get it!

Fit - well yes, and no - I was well overweight, but used to love walking - and I have worked out that it's a bad combination, which is why my hip wore out.  Weight without moving, or moving without being overweight is ok(ish).

Best wishes
