how long it take for withdrawls of venafaxaline to go away. been on it for 17 years.
I just started on Ven, but I was talking to other and they say its dependent on your dose, your health and fitness and to a degree you and the gp agree the process. I would purely guess thou the amount of time you been on it it could be 24 weeks ( 6 months ) as your body is very much used to it SNRI are hard to wean off than ssri, as they have two components working on your brain
Iv been off it it for 3 weeks and just started to feel a bit better.
Melissa,
withdrawls symptoms from drugs can take up to 12 months but it depends on your body chemistry and how long you have been taking it. Seventeen years is a long time and I hope you reduce your dose gradually over several weeks or you will feel bad. I would hope that you get advice from your GP before you start. If things get difficult for you seek medical advice right away.
I hope you can get off it without any problems, I wish you well.
robert
glad you are feeling better
Hi, I came off it last year after being on 300mg for approx a year. I switched to duloxetine so it wasn't as if I was coming off meds completely but I did notice that the side effects i associated with venlefaxine had virtually disappeared within a couple of weeks. Obviously everyone is different but good luck, I'm sure you'll be feeling better soon x
how long did you wean your self down.i did it in three days.i am taking prozac to help with the withdrawls.i think i was taking off of it to quick.
i tried that it made my upper right side hurt.does it yours.i get really constipated on it to.i did try that
It took me 8 months to finally stop but the thing is I have been on antidepressants for 32 years and venalfaxine was the last one
I have experienced unexplained chest pains a lot, never thought about it being connected tho . I have kidney stones on my right side too tho, so I'm always in pain. I'm seeing my psychiatrist on the 8th jan for a medication review so might be changing. Am currently weaning myself off of quetiapine b'cus I'm sick of the side effects so I'm not feeling too great right now either. Took a zolpidem last night just to get some sleep and I've been feeling awful all day, slept great tho.
Depends on the individual, and how long you take to withdraw. I stopped cold turkey once, and took a few weeks to feel better. Last time I took 10 months to withdraw and did not get any withdrawals. I have read so much on different sites on this subject.
Most people, if they stop too quickly, get withdrawals for days, weeks, or even months. Others recover from stopping quite quickly. I don't think we can so how long it takes. How long is it since you withdrew, and what are you feeling now? Are you getting withdrawals?
i am having the emotional state.everything makes me cry and i am so depressed.i withdrew in oct.they got me off in three days.myself thinks thats two quick.
the ony withdrawl i am feeling is deep depression
it will take 2 to 4 weeks for withdrawal of any chemicals which are present in human body.but the post effect will be seen till 5 to 6 months.
3 days does sound way to quick, was the a reason for the fast decrease ?
Oh gosh, 3 days, that is mad. Took me months.
DO NOT do it cold turkey! I was advised to stop taking it at 225mg for five days and then take Sertraline at 100mg. I spent the longest 5 days with my head down the toilet being sick, and the doctor never even warned me about the withdrawal symptoms! If you are going to do this, then do it very slowly...I would not want anyone to go through what I went through last year as I thought I would going to die it was so bad. Take care of yourself when you are doing it, and if you have the slightest thing wrong when you are coming off it, then PLEASE go and see your doctor.
Take care.
Marie
Hi Marie
It's interesting that you say your doc never warned you about all the withdrawal symptoms. From my experience and from what I read on here and other forums they never do warn us about all this. Makes my blood boil with anger because they must know about it so why the bloody hell don't they tell us.
HI Michael,
No its true...the doc (she) never told me about any withdrawal symptoms...she just told me to stop the tablets on Friday and take Sertraline the following Wednesday...not a word about the side effects. I had the most terrible brain zaps which made me so dizzy I couldnt stand up, so I went back to be checked on the monday. Still no mention of withdrawal symptoms. The next time I saw her, I told her what had happened and she told me that I had done 'very well' to come through it as I had! It doesnt exactly instill confindence in you when your own doc doesnt even tell you what to expect...at least, I wouldnt have thought I was either dying or going mad! They have prescribed Venlaflaxine again at the strengh of 75mg but as Im coming off Amitriptyline now, I am VERY reluctant to take the two of them together as Amitriptyline increases the way an antidepressant works, which I didnt know about and this is extremely dangerous which I have found out to my cost. I had Seratonine Syndrome in July which almost put me in hospital and I have had it again all over christmas as I was prescribed 50mg of Sertraline which I took against my own 'gut' feeling against doing so. The trouble is we think that the docs know what they are doing, but do they really? Are they prescribing things because of what the drug companies tell them, and do they listen to the experiences of the 'lab rats' (us) when things go wrong??
Anyway, thanks for listening!!
Marie
Hi Marie
To be honest with you I know through my constant research and also some inside information the real reason doctors prescribe these drugs and also why they don't tell us about withdrawal symptoms. The problem is that I can't post it on this forum. I'm going to post it on the venalfaxine forum as everybody on there has had a bad experience with antidepressants so I thing it more appropriate to post it there. I have said things on this forum about things I have found out through my research about medication and upset a few people unfortunately
