Depression and zopiclone

Hi all after having months of terrible nightmares.and restless sleep. First response last night whilst I was in hospital said they would send a letter to my gp basically asking if I can be put onto zopiclone. Has anyone any recent experience on this medication who also suffers with mental health issues. Just wondering if it's a risky idea due to being suicidal

I think everyone is different. But when I first started zopiclone it knocked me out, then it didn't work. Also was told that can't be on for long x

Do u suffer from depression? Did they tell u about any risks? When u say knocked out is that a good thing?

Yes and yes it was a good thing but I think I got immune to them and like I say what I've been told by doctors is that they will only give 4weeks worth at most but if you're looking for a quick fix and need sleep then I would say take them. But I'm no doctor, it's your choice xxx

Hi there

I am very familiar with this medication Nicola.

I am on it now 3.75mgs

It's a hypnotic it basically tricks your brain into thinking its bed time. Then you do it the same time every night then it becomes a pattern.

They recommend a short couse as the pattern should work.

. However people are very different in experiences

You will be told to take it 20 / 30 mins before you want to go to bed then it makes your brain think it's time to sleep.

It's works for me ... sometimes but it does give me a bit of groggy feeling in the mornings at the start. It did sort a pattern out. I did sleep much better Then the sleep problems came again so I went on them again... a few times. Over the years.

I forgot to mention they will monitor it like 1 week at a time like I said its a short course and a low dose .

You gp will know your situation and know not to give you many.

Im on short term zopiclone nicola and am undergoing withdrawal symptoms from one anti depressant and having some some sife effects from new ones. Xxx i have been given zopiclone when suicidal many times as sleep is so important as i find thats when im at my worst. I cud never do it as my daughter needs a mum. But i am thinking horrible thoughts at the moment too. Xxx for me short term it helped amd wasnt risky in my case. But the very first tablet i took made me feel strange till i fell aslp but it passed xx good luck sweetie xxxx

Hi Nicola. I have a lot of experiece with Zopiclone and various other mental health meds. I've actually been on this for around 2 years now and it is still working for me, which is unusal. I take 7.5mg. I am on it because I have (amongst other things) sever schizophrenia and sleep is almost impossible without this drug. It's fantasic for me but we are all different. Hope it helps you.
