dermatologist or gyny

Hi all, this is my first posting and woud appreciate any advice you can throw at me. My doctor is reasonably sure that i have LS but didn't know whether to refer me to a gynacologst or dermatologist. He decided on the latter and i am now in my 5th week of waiting for an appoinment to come through. Is this in line with everyone else or have more of you seen a gyny. I would hate to think after all the itchiness, tearing, swelling, anal itch ,etc etc over the last few years that i'm being referred to the wrong specialist and will have anotherlong wait looming.

HELLO, I'M SO SORRY YOU ARE HAVING TO WAIT SO LONG. I FIRST WENT TO A GYNY BECAUSE I HAD RECURRENT THRUSH WHICH TURNED OUT TO BE CANDIDA PARAPSILOSIS AND BECAUSE THIS DIDN'T CLEAR UP HE THOUGHT I MIGHT ALSO HAVE SOMETHING ELSE AND SENT ME TO A DERMATOLOGIST WHO TOLD ME STRAIGHT AWAY THAT I HAD LICHEN SCLEROSIS AND STARTED ME ON SOME TREATMENT. I DID GO PRIVATELY THOUGH SO DID NOT HAVE TO WAIT SO LONG. THE DERMATOLOGIST WAS CERTAINLY THE PERSON TO GO TO FOR THIS CONDITION.

HOPE BY NOW YOU HAVE BEEN SEEN AND ON YOUR WAY TO BETTER HEALTH

Hi Jillus, thanks so much for your reply. I've had my appointment for mid July thankfully with a dermatologist. In the meantime i've been to the local sexual health clinic as i was so desperate. Had thrush as usual when i went in 3 weeks ago and had the follow up app today and still had thrush. It had cleared up for a very short period of time and then come back with a vengence . The doc there was great and thought either LS or contact dermatitis (as i have no white areas at all doctor said a biopsy may be necessary) and prescribed dermovate ointment and epaderm emolient. Unfortunately whole area was as bad today as 3 weeks ago . The difference was that previous tears both sides of labia had healed and a large new tear has come on clitoris hood. All swabs came back clear and bloods were fine too so she said that's about as far as she could go for now , especially as the dermy app is getting closer.May i ask you what the difference is between thrush and candida parapsilosis? , or are they very similar? So that's where i'm up to at the moment. I'm pinning all my hopes on the up coming appointment and continuing to see if the dermovate will give some relief soon. x

I (Male 50, just confirmed LS) was recommended by my GP to see the Gyno at the Gum clinic. I had an appt in two days. I returned in 10 days for further tests, urine and blood tests etc. Very nearly a FULL medical check-up within a fortnight. This had been my first visits ever to such a place, and I can only say 100% attention and willingness to attend to the matter. Very helpful female Gyno checked the lot and identified the problem straight away. She even phoned me back at home that day to discuss initial tests carried out the same day. Pills and steriod cream given, and a futher revisit in 1 month already booked. After reading other comments on this site, I would recommend this route any time. This is a Westcountry N.H.S. hospital in England.
