Is pomegranate allowed for diabetes patients?
If 100 people answer this question, 50 will say yes, and 50 will say no.
Neha, you have to formulate your own diet. If the amount of carbs in this fruit or any other food falls within your diet plan than it is allowed. simple as that.
For what it's worth, in my books, this fruit is a super food and I would eat it despite of being a diabetic. The latest research says that it is not carbs/sugar that's the cause of type 2 diabetes but the culprit is FAT that causes Insulin resistance at cellular level by clogging the insulin receptors. That's my opinion at any rate. But then I am only a patient so read into this what you can
In general fresh fruit is allowed, just count your carbs, 1/2 cup (87g) of seeds is about 16 carbs, mostly sugar of course, but with a glycemic index of 5, that's OK. In general the straight juice is discouraged, but a little is OK with a meal, again just count the carbs, and best if you already have something else in your stomach for the juice to mix with and slow down the absorption.
