Sometimes it's hard to figure out what foods cause LP flare-ups. I'm beginning to think cheese is a problem. Any suggestions?
Possibly agree-also yoghurt. Certainly tomatoes , blueberries, peppers, chilli , some types of chocolate. Trial and error really
I am %100 sure it's wheat. As there is no research for this bloody disease I decided to try things from clothes that I wear to detergent and washing tablets that I use. I obviously tried the food group as well. It was heart breaking to find out that, it was wheat. If I eat a lots of sugar and wheat can't sleep from itching and I get new LP blisters/spots if I eat a bit in the morning (as I love my bread) I am ok during the night.
I also find out instead of expensive cream any cheap cream with Vitamin E is better for my skin.
I don't have LP in my mouth so sorry that you have so can't help regarding the tooth paste xxx
Would totally agree with sugar causing itch .
I don't eat wheat, chocolate, or sugar, so those aren't the problem. I suppose dairy needs to go. I probably should not have my normal glass of red wine with dinner, but if I do that, what is left? Potatoes and carrots!
Enjoy the wine. Probably , cheese, anything.dairy and any acidic fruits.
What about meat or fish? Does it mostly depend on the spices used, or can the meat itself cause inflammation?
I eat a lot of fish with or without sauces. Very little meat , very occasionally
I am embarrassed to go on and on about this, but the inflammation rarely lessens and so I constantly look for information. Flossing twice a day helps. Also swishing my mouth with water and a couple of drops of tea tree oil each time I eat something helps. I am taking arsenicum album, as many recommend.
Do you have steroid capsules from your consultant? The squigle toothpaste really is worth trying.
I have a steroid gel, but would like to avoid pharmaceuticals. I use it when it gets bad. My toothpaste (Biotene) is helpful, but I will look for Squigle as well. Thanks so much.
I seem to get the blisters in my mouth whatever I eat or drink, clean my teeth, anything really. From the list of things recommneded, it seems wheat, sugar, fruit and vegetables and dairy all can trigger and even meat and some fish! Is there really anything else left to eat? I wonder if it is really these foods or is it just that OLP and LP just flare up and settle anyway, whatever we do. I do think we need to be careful before cutting out great food groups because of the vitamins and minerals we lose too, so would suggest if anyone is considering cutting out dairy for instance that they ask to see a dietician for advice to make sure they get a good balance.
Am not sure life without chocolate is worth living!!
Ha! You chocolate lovers are funny! I agree that cutting out a whole food group is not a good idea, so maybe using my head about dairy is best. I'll stick to "real" fully fatted, plain yogurt and unprocessed cheese. Today I had a snack of gluten-free bread dipped in high-quality olive oil. My mouth took it well ... for now, anyway. Thanks for your post.
For me, its stress, I think, anxiety, worrying about something., also spicy food. Although such is the nature of this disease, anything can triggr it off!
Carolyn, I think it must be certain additives in some chocolate . My lips tingle as soon as I eat certain foods. Also , there is no doubt that stress makes the symptoms worse.
Agree about stress contributing.
It really is trial and error . Things can seems ok at the time but cause flare up the next day.
Hiya, I was diagnosed just over a year ago and have tried everything - it was pretty much all over my body, my head/face/scalp remains clear. I still have to daily use a steroid cream on my 'lady bits/bottom' and this seems to be a permanent not matter what I try...but everywhere else on my body I have managed to control I think through diet, I have spent hours researching online and I try and follow the Paleo diet which is no wheat, no dairy, no sugar, no starch, nothing processed. It was really hard at first but has now become a way of life and means that I very very rarely itch or get a a new blister...My oral LP flares up occasionally but that is definitely sugar (when I take a break from the diet) and through stress (which I originally scoffed at but have seen with my own eyes my skin change when under stress)...I also take a cocktail of vitamins including the arsenicum album to make up for lost vitamins though food..but have to say on the whole it's worked...I use aqueous cream as a showergel/moisturiser...the only thing I hate now are the hideous dark marks left by the steriod cream/original LP...am seriously hoping that I'm going to be a 2 year cycle story and that in a years time will be free of this crappy disease that no-one seems to know about nor do any serious research into!
I retired in December of 2012 and have been (what I consider to be) stress-free ever since. My job required global travel, so maybe I need a little more action in my life. Sometimes I suppose stress can be due to a life change, such as retirement.
How long before you saw results from this diet? Thank you.
