Difference between Gastroenterologist and a Colorectal Doctor?

I am just wondering what the difference is as I am currently seeing a Gastroenterologist and have been recently referred to a Colorectal doctor by my GP.

Also what happens on your first appointment with the Colorectal doctor?

A colorectal surgeon will ask you about your symptoms and may examine your stomach. You may be asked to loosen your clothing for this. He or she may advise on further testing such as a colonoscopy, sigmoidoscopy or a blood test. When I had bad acid reflux, I saw a gastroenterologist who did an endoscopy to examine inside my stomach  (small intestine) and found nothing.  A colorectal surgeon examines problems with your large intestine (bowel).

Thanks for replying I thought the Gastroenterologist is an expert in all abdomen related problems so I was confused being sent to a Colorectal doctor. You have put my mind at ease now. Thankyou

Glad to be of help.
