I have to ask a question. I have major discomfort problems from Prostatitis or TURP. I had the TURP done mainly to eliviate these problems in prostate area, but also had Serious urination issues. Could the TURP have hurt me? I read on here from people who have dealt with prostate issues without having surgery and wonder if it's too late for me. I am a human being too and would like to know that there is a chance for healing even for people who's TURP procedures didn't turn out the way they were told they would.

If the turp enabled you to urinate more easily and regularly empty your bladder more completly it technically achieved its goal. However, if the turp INTRODUCED major discomfort that has lasted more than a couple of months after the procedure maybe you should ask to have a cystoscopy done to check out eveything post-turp down there. -Maybe by a different surgeon to get another perspective. I had a turp myself some 3.5 years ago and it did not go very well. There were lots of problems and they weren't able to do all that good of a job clearing a channel for my urethra to pass and now the same miserable symptons are beginning to reappear again. But, in spite of all the invasive trauma down there after a couple of months it stopped hurting and for 3 years I felt normal again. No discomfort or pain and I was able to stop planning my life around bathroom locations and able to sleep for a good 5-6 hours or so without having to get up at night. If you have contunued discomfort down there a long time after the turp maybe you might also have an infection. That should be able to be determined by a simple urinalysis. I'd go get a cystoscopy and urinalysis if I were you, and then go from there.

John-T, why do you have to wait 4 months for Holep procedure, especially when you are having to wear a catheter? That's a great formula for an infection.... -4 months on catheterization
Can you go somewhere else where the wait isn't so ridulously long?

Bonjour Lawrence, j'habite à Montréal au Canada et il n'y a qu'un seul hôpital (médecin) qui pratique la HOLEP. J'aurais pu avoir une TURP, mais j'ai refusé. Je sais que c'est inhumain d'attendre aussi longtemps pour être opéré et oui, porter une sonde urinaire aussi longtemps m'a déjà causé quelques infections jusqu'à présent, mais j'ai réussi à les éliminer. Je n'ai pas le choix. Je crois qu'il y a une autre province au Canada qui pratique la HOLEP et c'est en Alberta, loin de chez moi et probablement avec une longue liste d'attente. Mon autre alternative serait d'aller aux États-Unis à la Mayo Clinic, mais cela est probablement extrêmement coûteux puisque je n'ai pas d'assurance maladie aux États-Unis.
Is it possible I have nerve damage from the TURP ? I had it many years ago and it still bothers me today. !! Almost 6 years ago. Had a cutting like feeling after the operation was done but thought it would go away. The dr. up north claims everything is alright.
