I was pleased to find this site as 4 months ago I was gong to the gym most days of the week. I am 61 years old but consider myself to be relatively fit. In may of this year I developed a spit and continually wanted to clear my throat .
I have had an MRI scan, Cat scan andchest/lung Xrays, all of which were clear. I have experienced lots of the symtoms contributore to the site talk about. Back pain, shoulder pain, breathlessness, hoarsness ,buzzing in my head tiredness and most scary of all lightheadedness which makes me feel as if I'm going to faint. I have seen two ENT consultants the latter of whom said that a virus was causing too much acid being produced in my stomach and has prescribed two 20mg doses of Opemrazole daily. I have taken great comfort form the discussions on this site but I am particularly interested if anyone has experienced the lightheadedness/ dizziness and ringing in the head.
Can relate totally to your scarey experience. Suffered from Reflux Oesophaghitis for several months until a dental checkup revealed the cause. Deep Cleaning toothpaste containing Sodium bicarbonate, the more relux I experienced the more I scrubbed my teeth to take away the horrid taste in my mouth. We all want nice clean teeth but what are we ingesting. Worth a talk to your dentist.
Thanks for that. The only thing is that Mum is 86 years old this year and lost her teeth years ago! At the moment she is losing her mind with the problems she is having. The doctor just keeps swapping around from Omeprazole to Rinatidin. I'm afraid due to experience I have little faith in the medical profession. Mum's problems started following a doctor prescribing antibiotics for a cough. The minute she started taking them is when all the other problems began. Coincidence? Who knows. Now that we have asked the doctor what was prescribed by her colleague she denies everything.

Hi sorry for any spelling mistakes
I am 33 years old male I have been suffering with acid for about 10 years last year I had a camera and got told I had a hieratic hernia 6cm and 6cm of scaring and the start of barotts I am on two 40mg of esomeprazole daily for a bit the meds worked but then all of a sudden I started to burp really badly all the time with this I have been getting pains in my chest, arm, back, neck and sholder from sharp pains to burning to crushing and lightheaded I was really confused with these so I went to a.e had ECG all came back fine I was told that there was nothing wrong and sent home I keep on getting these everyday and are really worrying as all the Simptoms are like you are having a Hart attach I wish that you where told about this then you meat your doctor so I can get there you are coming from with pains and I don't think we are the only ones
These symptoms, dizziness and burning pains in the body (peripheral neuropathy), combined with heart symptoms can all be from a B12 deficiency.
The body stores up to seven years of B12 in the liver. It can take a really long time to become deficient enough for symptoms to appear, and even longer for a B12 deficiency to show up in a blood test.
B12 requires a lot from the body in order to be absorbed. As we age, we lose this ability more and more. Also, taking acid reducing medication can reduce vitamin absorption.
Try taking a b-complex sublingual, the kind you put under you tongue, and one that is "co-enzymated" so that it's already in a form your body can use. And then take extra b-12 in the form of methylcobalmin.
Also, look into taking "alginate" or "alginic acid" which isn't an acid, but is a supplement made from brown algae. You take it after a meal, and it creates a foamy raft that floats at the top of the stomach, physically blocking stomach contents from rising up into the esophagus. This may help you get off some of the other GERD medications you take that cause side effects like malabsorption.
I experience extreme dizziness daily caused by acid reflux, to the point I find it hard to balance, sometimes things also spin, nothing works to relieve it, meclizine failed, ephedra cold medicine failed, the proton pumps don't work for me anymore so they fail, baking soda used to help with acid reflux but it no longer works either, my head is stopped up and stuffy from acid reflux which makes me dizzy and nothing works for it. That is the thing about the pronton pumps they will work until you run out and then skip a few days then they will no longer work, at least that is what happened to me.
Hi there mate just wondering if you had any joy with the dizziness thing I've also got an acid reflux problem been on omeprazole for 10 years an no better I've had dizziness problems in the past but the docs put it down to anxiety I'm a 37 yr old male and I'm fed up to the back teeth getting fobbed of with the anxiety card

Hi my name is Lauren i was reading your story and I just wanted to let you know I experience the samething ,I got diagnostied with acid reflux about a year ago and now I am experiencing all the symtoms you are talking about,If you have heard anything new from the doctors can you let me know.
Thank you
Hi, my name is melissa, I started getting acid reflux about 2 years ago when I was pregnant with my third child all through 2015. Well I had her on 9-11-15 and had my 3rd c-section also. Well about 2 weeks after I had her the 2nd symptom other than the chest burning feeling of heartburn that I got was a closing tight feeling in my throat. Well I actually didn't think much of it till I noticed my glands in my neck were swollen too about two weeks after I was getting that feeling. Also didn't think much of it, but when that feeling or the swollen glands didn't go down after about a month I decided to make a Dr appt. They sent me for blood work and came back with a positive mono test. Then my life turned to hell and still is. I had the mono all the way up until June of 2016, I felt like I was dying everyday for 6 months, and when my grandmother passed in February of 2016 it made all my symptoms much worse cuz it added anxiety and stress from her passing on top of it. Anyway, ever since I got diagnosed with mono all my symptoms started and have gotten worse since then. I had gotten two endoscopy's done, one down the throat and one through my nose. Also has a colonoscopy done. They said that my esophagus was red and inflamed and that I had GERD so prescribed me 20 milligrams of Omeprazole twice daily. Well it worked for the heartburn, but nothing else. As of today my symptoms are daily regurgitation in my throat, gerd, sharp chest pains, shortness of breath, peripheral neuropathy symptoms like Burning Sensations in my skin numbness and tingling in my hands feet and face, a constant sore throat everyday all day, sinuses burn every now and then and have constant post nasal drip, I feel very out of it and hazy like a high feeling when I'm on nothing but omeprazole, muscle tiredness feelings, joint pain, muscle spasms and vibration feelings in my body, I get flashes of light in my eyes daily and blurred vision, headaches daily, itchy spots on my skin, chronic constipation and stomach aches daily, and I'm sure I'm forgetting a few because there's so many I can't even keep track of them anymore. But I've been feeling all the symptoms ever since I got diagnosed with mono and the only thing the doctor has been able to find is that my red blood cells are smaller than what they're supposed to be but cannot find a cause for it because they ruled out any form of anemia. And diagnosed me with GERD and said that I have anxiety and that can cause a lot of the symptoms that I'm getting but I do not get anxiety very often so I highly doubt that all of these symptoms are being caused by anxiety. I just talked an allergist and to taking blood test for food allergies and celiac disease and I will be hearing back in about 4 days the results of that because I know that food allergies or food and tolerance can do a number on your body as well so I wanted to see if that may be the cause of all of this and if it's not I have no clue where to begin on what could be causing all of this because I don't think that it could all be from GERD either some yes but not all the symptoms I get. But my gerd and regurgitation the past month or two has been worse than it has ever been and I'm pretty fed up with all these symptoms daily especially having to take care of 3 kids every day one of them being a baby. And was just wondering if anybody else with stomach and gerd issues experiences this many symptoms like I do or have any advice on what it could be or what I could do to make all this stuff go away or help it get better at least I would greatly appreciate any information you can give me at this point. Oh also I forgot another symptom that I get is heart palpitations which after wearing a heart monitor for a month was officially diagnosed as PVCs and tachycardia which I've heard isn't very uncommon with stomach issues and indigestion and GERD because it irritates the vagus nerve which is also connected to the heart. Anyway sorry I wrote so much and if you read it all thank you for taking your time to read my story I tried to make it as short as possible because there is actually much more detail within the 8 months or so ago all this suffering started for me but I just wanted to get the most important things in. I really hope that they find something that's more effective for people like us other than acid reducers because they really don't do much for GERD symptoms so in closing I hope that we all start feeling much better sooner rather than later. Thanks
Hi there still on the same meds no change it comes and goes very frustrating what about your situation?
Hi Weebee,
How you found your treatment solution? I am having that too and still looking for a better solution. If you have a medical solution, please advice me. Thank you.
Well I got test results back for celiac and food allergies, they were both normal, nothing to find there. So back to square one. Have no idea what could be causing all this. The only thing I can think of doing is trying a super clean healthy diet for a while and see if that helps. Maybe try taking probiotics and digestive enzymes also. I don't know what else to do. I've had almost every blood test done known to man and they can't find anything wrong. So if there's nothing wrong, why do I feel so bad?? Anyway. I was thinking maybe some of this could be side effects of the omeprazole so maybe with eating right I can slowly get off the medicine. Amd well eventually see how it goes I guess. Good luck to everyone
Thank you for this information. I also suffer from hearthburn and dizziness. I havent taken vitamins in a while so I will definitely start taking B12. I will keep you posted.
I am having all those symptoms for the last 6 months. All tests came out fine. Doctor has no clue what is causing this. Will start taking some multivitamins containing B12 and thinking to change the toothpaste to some natural one and see if it helps. Will let you all know if that helps. Thanks!
I share your pain (and frustration!) I too recently went for another round of blood work and tests for various food allergies, all of which turned up normal (it's so odd that i actually wish for bad news!)
I've also been trying the homeopathic route too - enzymes with every meal, colostrum powder twice a day, etc. Might be helping but hard to say since still have chest ache and tight throat -both of which come on at random times. My doctor now seems to think it's related to my nervous system and inflammation - going to try acupuncture next along with various vitamin and hormone therapy.
I've also been thinking about the super clean diet as well, although I hate the idea of making myself even more miserable, if in fact, I don't have any food allergies or insensitivies. That's my biggest problem - I eat like a monk for a few weeks, feel a bit better but not great, and then decide I might as well enjoy my food and the occasional drink. Neverending cycle.
The one thing I can share is that going off of the omeprazole helped me a lot. I was taking it for 10 years and while it worked great for a while, it eventually got to a point where it didn't make a difference at all. It took me a while to wean off of it, and then I tried an H2 blocker for another 6 months. When I finally got off of that, my stomach felt much better (less gas and bloating). Of course, chest and throat pain still persist.
Anyways, good luck with your plan! Would be curious to hear if you get relief.
