I have similar feelings and can't figure out why. Did CT, MRI, blood work and nothing shows reason for dizziness. It's gotten worse over the last few months. Very bad when laying down and putting my head on pillow. Spinning. Have to get up slowly and sit on edge of bed to regain stability. I'm on BP Meds and doc said sounds like low BP well that's not the case. It's higher or normal so not BP . Tried taking Meds at different times but still no help. Something causing it to get worse and don't know what. Frustrated as doc doesn't know what to do about it. Found this site and comfort knowing I'm not alone.
I think I may qualify to be a member of the this club too. I get this random "swoosh" when sitting, most often in front of a computer. I am unsure how to describe it. Sort of like a wavy feeling in the head, that comes out of nowhere and its "gosh, I really don't feel well am I going to fall of my chair?". Last a few seconds to couple minutes, then I am fine. Sometimes I get it a few times a day, sometimes not for a couple of days. The GP ordered MRI's, sent me to opthamologist because I thought related to eye movement from looking from one monitor screen to the next, also sent to cardiologist for Lexiscan stress test, and carotid ultrasound, I've seen a neurologist and had MRA of brain and neck. (need to call to find out results) He had no idea what this weird thing is. For awhile I thought it was related to chemical exposure at work, since this is where it started and where happened. It seemed to resolve when I moved my office. Now I am at home in front of a computer and starting to have frequent episodes again. Reading others post, I wonder if it doesn't have something to do with sitting in front of computer screens-perhaps the constant exposure to light on screen, neck position...
Sorry to hear all of you having problems. Maybe we can find a common factor and figure it out
I've got exactly the same symptoms as what you are saying...I'm getting really frustrated and feel like sometimes I have anxiety. Just wanted to know if you have had it treated or found something to treat it?
I am also having very similar symptoms. The dizziness is very quick and is as if somebody has just lightly pushed my head in one direction (usually to the left). It came on and is at its worst when I am sitting in front of my computer at work. It is never bad enough to make me sway or have to grab onto something - it is just unpleasant. I also switch between two (equally sized and positioned) screens. Like others, the feeling disappears almost completely when I am in a moving vehicle - I feel fantastic actually when I'm a passenger in a car. The rest of the time I feel dizzy and just generally unwell. I have had my ears and blood tested (all fine). An orthopaedic specialist has found my upper back and neck muscles to be extremely hard and tense and I have had some injections to relax them, an IV drip of muscle relaxant (with no improvement in the dizziness) and will begin physiotherapy. He said it could be related to that but not necessarily. I have an MRI of the head scheduled this week. Many doctors think it is stress but I am not convinced. I also notice that I have started to feel worse when I am hungry, with a minor improvement after having eaten. I will keep you updated in the hope that I or somebody else can find a solution to make life better again...
I have similar issues with dizziness and light headedness. For me I feel it at quiet times standing or sitting but the worst is laying down. My doctor said it's likely positional vertigo. Meaning there is a crystal that has developed in the ear organ That controls balance. There are YouTube videos that teach you how to " shake it loose". I just learned this and have not tried yet.
Just to update. I had an MRI of the brain/head which came back perfectly normal. My next ports of call are GP for an ECG and ophthalmologist for an eye test. It is a huge relief to know the MRI was okay though.
I hate to admit it (although it is a relief) but since the MRI and in the knowledge that I don't have a brain tumour or similar, the dizziness has got a lot better. It still isn't perfect and I will be taking some days off work for some R+R, but I haven't been worrying so much and it has improved. The neurologist does want to double-check the flow of blood to my brain as I have a blood disorder that means your blood is more susceptible to clotting (protein S deficiency) but that is more a precaution than anything. I will also go to the ophthalmologist this week as my eyes are very sore. The dizziness is noticeably better when I take my glasses off when working on the computer as well, in case that is of use to anybody. I haven't done the ECG yet. Mark, are you able to get an MRI? That might help you at least mentally to worry a little less about the problem (I know that is easier said than done ).
Hope you don’t me joining in the thread, I did actually contribute on it about 9 months ago way up this thread.
I have had the dizziness for well over a year now and had a number of tests - Head & Neck MRI, CT scans, Heart and Aorta scans, 24 heart monitoring, ECG’s and seen neurologist, cardiologist, doctors, ENT specialist, Optician and dentist and sure there’s probably one or two more I’ve forgotten. After all this all they could find was that I had was Sinus infection!
They’ve put it down to anxiety and am being treated for it with citalopram, been taking this for 6 months now. This has helped so much if I’m honest. I do regular exercise and have reasonably healthy diet. The dizziness hasn’t completely gone but improved loads. Probably a lot to do with having such a big health MOT has mentally eased the worry and when I get it I take comfort in knowing realistically there’s nothing wrong with me.
I’ve also started attending some anxiety groups found through the Meet Up App which have allowed me to meet similar sufferers. For me it’s a become apparent that my symptoms dizziness / swaying sensation, feeling of pulsating pulse, itchy swollen top teeth only feeling, knot in the stomach, occasional bloating feeling, upper back and neck muscles extremely tense, itchy skin and eczema, sinus pain and drip are mostly all symptoms of anxiety.
That's exactly what I was trying to say. The anxiety that you get from having a really bad sinus infection or any type of fluid whatsoever in the sinuses can make you feel like you're losing your mind. Once you understand that it's dizziness and loopiness caused from extra fluid in the sinus cavity it all begins to stop.
I think anxiety has a lot to answer for. I've ignored my dizziness this last few weeks, literally giving it no attention. It's getting better definitely worth a try.
Just to keep you updated: the ophthalmologist didn't find anything wrong with my eyes and the neurologist also didn't find any issue with the flow of blood to my brain/head (ultrasound). I'm still none the wiser as to what it is. The neurologist thinks that it is the fact that I am not doing enough exercise and my spine is not correctly aligned and sending the wrong messages to my head. This is largely based on the fact that the vertigo is at its worst when I am sitting at a desk or when I am lying in bed with my head propped up. On the other hand I went to the orthopaedic specialist and he didn't find this so.... :-S I have an ECG scheduled for the end of the month.
Each one of you including Rich might find the website vestibular dizziness association very resourceful. Seems like some of you have different forms of dizziness and needn't even live with the spinning sensation you have, if correctly diagnosed by a physician/ ENT specialized in neuro-otology and treated by a vestibular trained physical or occupational therapist.Good luck.
So I'm in the same boat !! but keen to get the boat to dock and get off it!
I'm starting 3rd week of it, had ECG, MRI IAMS's & Brain (all OK) not allowed to drive off sick because I'm unsteady on my feet and think I wouldn't be able to work as it's very difficult to concentrate. Cooking dinner is difficult!
HI everyone, I am new here, been going through this on and off for over 20 years. DX with BPPV I was given exercises to do. 8-20-15 it came back bad. woke up spinning. Went to ENThe did the Epley Maneuver n it stopped the spinning at least. Went back n had ENG/VNG test done. Said my right ear was over active. Since that test I have been having ( the head shifts) I have had 3 ENG/VNG since the 90's. But, haven't been really right since the last one. Everyone is different this is just my experience. I
am fine in car When moving but at a light the feeling comes back. I am better as the passenger. I have a hard time sitting watching tv can't sit back. Also getting that pulling head feeling in my sleep now. Trying to prop pillows but then my neck starts on me. For a few months I felt pretty ok but last Sat the feeling in my head is back big time. I may have to have oral surgery and so afraid to put my head back. Maybe he can put me out for it.
