I had it fitted 2 and a half months ago and since then have only had a couple of days when I wasn't bleeding. I constantly have pelvic pain, feel very lethargic and have put on weight albeit that might be because I'm depressed at being in this constant debilitating state! Thank goodness I don't have a partner at the moment, it would be even more unbearable then. Also I have to change tampons every couple of hours because of the very unpleasant odour. I am certain my hair is thinning as well but my Doctor told me to persevere for at least 6 months! Not sure what to do whether to keep going with it or have it removed. Any comments welcome!
I had the coil fitted on the 13th Feb 09 like you have not really stopped bleeding no one want to listen to you tell you to carry on 3-6 months to settle down. I am depressed with it cannot see a end had it fitted because my period started and just kept going got heavy made me anemic had to have a transfussion it was a nightmare for 5 weeks agreed to the coil because it sounded like the answer, but not so sure now so fed up with it get told not to stress about it as not helping, back to gyne doctor on the 11th May think i might just insist that he takes it out, I just want to be normal again happy again
 :D keep the coil you wont look back 5 years i have had mine and going for a new one on 23rd April, nothing works over night give it a try put it to the back of your mind and move on it will work trust me i know.also stop useing tampons.....
I have suffered from heavy periods. My Doctor said maybe I should try the Merina coil as this is supposed to make periods a lot lighter or vanish them altogether. After suffering heaving periods I thought this would be bliss. So in July 08 it was fitted and 25 March 09 I have had it removed. I was going to wait the year but ended up with 8 months in total. I was totally fed up with bleeding.
Having the coil at first wasn't too bad I bled quite lightly but for a long time. Then I would have more or less 2 periods in one month lastings for about 10 days each. Then in March I don't think I have actually stopped bleeding. Even though the bleeding is lighter I had to decide whether it was worth it. My choice seems to be that either I have a very heavy period for 5 - 6 days each month or a bleed constantly but light.
It was very uncomfotable getting it out as she couldn't find the threads. The first couple of days after removal I felt a bit strange, sad and depressed and I bled for about 5 days then stopped. I have just started bleeding again but is is very light and it has been for 4 days so far. Going to see what my body does before I give something else a try, that is if there is something else.
I think you have to read as much about the problems and success stories and then make up your own mind. I kind of feel glad I had it removed. At the moment anyway.
