Has anyone have experience using alfuzosin (Uroxatral) for BPH as opposed to using other BPH drugs? I was looking for something other than Tamsulosin to deal with BPH symptoms due to RE, Ed and any other sexual or adverse Side effects.
In my experience, alfuzosin had no sexual side effects -- indeed, no discernable side effects at all. Tamsulosin -- aka Flomax -- seemed to work slightly better, but with the side effects you may already know.
I've been on uroxatral for 15 years and find that it really helps a lot with my BPH symptoms. I do not have any noticeable side effects from it. I first started with Flomax and it made me very dizzy and no relief at all to help me pee. So I switched to uroxatral back then and would recommend it.
I don't understand why this drug would be different from Flomax. The listed side-effects all read the same as Flomax's. What is the difference.
I'd like to know as I passed out on Flomax (when I started taking it). My GP never bothered to tell me that with my low blood pressure there would be that possibility.
Thanks.
Hi, thanks for your anecdotal experience with the drug.
So you didn't find the same sexual side effects, like retrograde ejacu or Ed symptoms from your experience with uroxatral? Thanks again
i have tried both . Flomax definite RE , Alfizusin no RE for me ever .
yes yes, I've been on it and the side effects were very minimal.

Howard, there seems to be only one dosage of 10mg for alfuzosin. What if one needs higher dose ? Hank
No none of those side effects at all. BUT I did get those side effects with Proscar/Avodart which is a very different type of drug for BPH (hormone inhibitor). I was on uroxatral for many years but as my prostate continued to grow my urologist at the time put me also on Avodart and THEN I developed all those symptoms and have watched my body turn into a woman's body!! So PLEASE if your uro ever recommends those drugs tell him NO! Uroxatral is just a muscle relaxer and does not reduce the size of the prostate as Avodart does - for a while. Flomax and xatral have different formulations but I do not understand the biochemical difference. Howard
Hi Hank - I think higher doses cause a lot of dizziness. One pill is great but I once took 2 and almost fainted! Good luck. Howard
I've been on Tamsulosin for a year. Took a couple months for my body to adjust to it. No issues any longer, except occasional light headedness when standing from a down position .
Here's another reason to take alfuzosin instead of tamsulosin. Google the following:
"Alfuzosin for BPH Linked to Fewer Snags in Cataract Surgery"
yes. much better side effect profile and I had no RE w/ it. Also, my urologist confided in me that he uses it!
I had to quit because it worsened my hives.
