Does anyone else have chronic insomnia on venlafaxine?

I have been on venlafaxine for 7 months and have chronic insomnia, my hours of sleep vary between 1 and a half hours and a maximum of 5 hours, this seems so ridiculous and is driving me absolutely crazy. Do other people have this problem?

Are you on the extended release and what time of day do you take your dosage?

I had poor sleep on ven over the years, but never as bad as you are describing.  I'd wake, roll over, go back to sleep, wake, roll over -  shampoo, rinse, repeat.  Some nights I'd have to get up and warm up some milk.

Nowadays I'm taking magnesium glycinate morning and night for anxiety and insomnia, just to help keep me down.  Might be something to try.  At least 100% of the daily recommended dose of elemental magnesium.

Hi fiore.

Yes I had insomnia when I first started.

Felt like I was waking up every hour.

My head buzzing. Think that went on for a good 2-3 months. It did eventually sort itself out, except when I increase or decrease the dose and then it starts all over again

I am not on extended release, I am taking 150mg at about 7.30 am and 150mg about 7pm (I used to take it before bed but pharmacist suggested taking earlier). Last night I had 4 and a half hours sleep so am now feeling achey and slightly queasy. The problem seems to be getting off to sleep in the first place so awake for hours before falling asleep, Dr has prescribes a few sleeping tablets at a time saying to only take 1 every 3 nights so as not to become addicted, I will look upyour suggestion of magnesium glycinate. Thanks

My problem is getting off to sleep to begin with. I will investigate betsy's suggestion of magnesium glycinate. Thanks

When I was on Ven I struggled sleeping, some nights hardly at all. I used take the iPad to bed and watch any old thing. However I found that I wanted to sleep during the day.

I stopped taking Ven a few weeks ago and the last few days I'm sleeping really well.
