Hi all, 8 days ago, 13th Dec, I had a prolapse repair.
I had: anterior and posterior repair (cystocele and rectocele) - Sacrospinous ligament fixation to hold my uterus up and a tvt sling for bladder stress incontinence
i am in so much pain in my right butt at the base of my spine area where they attach the stitches to the ligament there.
i know it’s very early days and I have been resting lots, mainly lying in bed because I cannot sit down. My hubby has been great and is doing all the housework, shopping, cooking etc
he goes to work during the day and my mum has been popping in when she can which is nice so I have plenty of support around me.
i was constipated for 6 days after the operation and was terrified of having my first BM!!
i had been having bowel problems for about a year before the op, it always felt like there was a blockage of some sort which stopped me from “going” and when I did go it was always very small amounts and sometimes I had to press against my perinium to help it come out due to the rectocele (sorry for the graphic information!!) my belly has been so swollen and destended for many months I seriously looked 8 months pregnant. It was awful.
My consultant said the operation might not help my bowel problems but I think it has.
i stopped taking the co-codamol on day 5 and am now taking 2 x paracetamol and 2 x ibuprofen four times a day, morning, noon, late afternoon and evening.
Although today I have taken 1 co-codamol at 10.30am due to the unbearable pain.
i have also been having Laxido drinks since the day after my op.
i had my first BM on Monday and it was not painful so I was very pleased, I was so happy that I phoned my hubby and my mum and told them I had just had my first No2!!! ![]()
about half hour later I had another and this continued for the rest of the day. The bloating in my belly (which has been constant for the past year) has subsided so I think this operation has helped tremendously for that.
Yesterday, one week after the op, I had a false sense of security where I felt like the butt pain was easing off a little, I washed my hair in the shower (first time it’s been washed for a week!)
and could put all my weight on my right leg for the first time (the joys of trying to put your knickers on when you can’t bend down at all or sit properly)
i went outside for the first time in a week, held onto hubby and walked about 50 steps and then back again. Started getting pain on the way back so layed on the settee in the evening.
the pain is pretty excruciating when you first try and get comfortable but lots of deep breaths and holding back tears it eventually subsides.
Today is a different story .... woke up with pain, haven’t been for a BM yet since last nights dinner which I think is putting pressure on my butt and the pain in my butt has been horrific all morning.
i am staying in bed today because I think I overdid it yesterday
has anyone else had the same operation as me done??
How long does this butt pain last for??
can anyone shed any light on the recovery period and when I can look forward to being free of this awful butt pain???
I don’t want to put anyone off having this surgery as I believe, once healed, I will feel so much better than before but I really want reassurance that this pain I’m feeling in my butt/ligament is normal and only temporary
thank you ladies xx
