By long, I mean in the 1.5 second to 2 second range. Basically,. I’m a 17 yr old male and I’ve been having this awful health anxiety concerning my heart for almost 2 months now. It keeps me up until like 4am researching to no avail, causes several panic attacks throughout the day, I’ve pretty much withdrawn from everything I used to do, like going out. It’s like living a nightmare at times. Trust me, if you know you know. But anyway to the point, I’ve been having a lot of weird symptoms like palpitations that I pretty much boiled down to just anxiety. But there is this one weird symptom that I’ve been having over the past few days than I just can’t make sense of. Basically, throughout the day, it feels like my heart will take these long pauses, usually no longer than 1.5 or 2 seconds. But this alone is just freaky. Not just that, but while it’s happening, I will feel this weird pressure feeling in my head, specifically my upper nose forehead area. It also seems to happen more if I’m either laying down or right when I sit down or stand up. I also sometimes feel dizzy or my muslces feel stiff but I think this is just anxiety adding stuff on. What could all this be? I’m not really able to see a doctor because I made an appt on January 21 and he felt it but he didn’t put me on an ekg, apparently it seemed fine. Despite this, my parents don’t seem to take me that seriously and say that I don’t need to go to a doctor. But this has been ruining my life, I keep thinking I’m going to die or pass out and I’m even too scared to drive alone or excersize because of this. If you came this far, thank you for reading, and if you have expericned this and/or have advice, feel free to drop something. I’d give anything, I’d give all my hard earned work money from last summer right now to feel and be normal again ![]()
hey man. 100% yes. we are two peas in a pod as far as symptoms and worrying about exercise etc
i had an initial issues of palpitations while working out. (too much coffee turned out to be the cause) my Anxiety that it was something horrible went crazy over a few days and i went back to A&E 4 times because my pulse was crazy fast then crazy slow and irregular
one time i went because I woke up and perceived it to be beating every two seconds! and at the hosiptal it was 45, and that’s with me freaking out in panic.
they weren’t that concerned as my blood pressure was normal, Put it down to anxiety. sure enough once I calmed down over a few days it returned to normal.
what was explained to me is stress causes ectopic beats. when feeling your pulse what you feel is a strong beat (early heartbeat) followed by a pause. the pause is the time for the blood to fill lower chamber as the heartbeat was early. Think of a two-stroke engine coughing and spluttering because the timing is off. that’s all you are feeling.
how to fix it.
resign yourself that you do not have the skill to to diagnose anything wrong with you. Furthermore you do not have the skill differentiate something wrong from the effects of stress.
As hard as it is stop self monitoring you have to do it. Just say to yourself I’m waking up every day it’s been months and I’m not dead!
Relaxing, not thinking about it, and focusing on other things is your way out of this.

These heart beats are called ectopic beats. Everyone gets them from time to time but most people can’t feel them.
Basically what is happening is your heart is missing a beat and the next beat feels stronger as it pumps out the extra blood.
This is completely normal. Anxiety can actually cause them to happen even more frequently. But the point is, they are uncomfortable but they won’t kill you.
I have them myself so I speak from experience.
