So I'm currently going through an outbreak. Luckily, my outbreaks are very mild and does not really bother me. I'm currently on suppressive therapy taking 500 mg of valacyclovir every day. I've also been taking l lysine. I am just curious does l lysine work for genital herpes HSV-2?
Yes. I take mine three times a day during outbreak & once every morning. Sometimes at night too just to be safe. I take super L lysine. During outbreaks, I take them three times a day on an empty tummy as well as Red Marine Algae at night, during this situation.
Lysine has not been adequately proven to treat any type of genital herpes in patients, so the current expert recommendation (though you can still find much outdated advice online) is that you can take it if you want to and if it seems to help, but it is not endorsed as an official treatment, nor is it for reducing shedding or transmission. Despite the lack of conclusive clinical evidence in patients (versus test tubes), many people swear by it, so it is a personal choice.
True. But it helps keep the immune system strong which is important. When it's weak, outbreaks start to come most likely.
