Does Mirtazapine have similar effects to tranquilizers like Lorazepam (Ativan)?

My doctor has put me on Mirtazapine in conjunction with antipsychotics after a traumatic event that changed the wiring of my brain. I tried Ativan and was given instant relief.

Are the effects after 2-4 weeks on Mirtazapine comparable/similar to those experienced on Ativan?

I'm desperate for relief. I can't live with this anxiety anymore.

And when I say anxiety, I'm actually referring to both depression and anxiety.

As for as I understand yes. It helps a lot of people but be ready for some possible side effects like gain weight.

It will in all likelihood not do what lorazepam did for you. Lorazepam was my go too after Xanax and Valium and was the best med for the relief of my GAD. My GP Doctor prescribed it freely for years but since the health care industry now frowns on long term use I am no longer able to use this drug. My psychiatrist will not prescribe it period. I now take 30mg mirtazapine  and 10mg escitalopram every day instead of an as required benzodiazepine which doesn't make much sense to me especially when these two drugs together are not as effective as one 5mg lorazepam.

To make a long story short-- mirtazapine was great for sleep  but did little to relieve anxiety.

Hi, Im on Mirtz but weaning off after 6 months.. its a great sleep aid but didnt do much for my anx...

Just realized an error in my earlier post. The usual strength for the lorazepam is 0.5mg not 5mg. Quite a difference as I would think that 5mg would leave me more than relaxed.
