Dressing off, first shower, checked wound...

..... and just noticed one staple has been left in.  Got to go to A & E and have it removed.  Grrrrrrr!

That's poor work by the nurse there.

As you say , grrrrrr . I had stitches and was still picking them out of my wound 6 weeks later !!!! Seems my nurse didn't have her glasses on , maybe we had the same one lol

Back home now.  I phoned the ward and the spoke to the staff nurse there, who also happened to be the trauma nurse on duty that day.  She came down to A & E and took the staple out.  The wound was a bit gappy, so she has steri-stripped it and applied a dressing.  Also gave me some dressings and advised me to keep it dry and covered for a while, so my first shower was also my last for a bit.   She said the gaps were where the wound had overlapped a bit rather than being edge to edge.  Still, she said it was all looking good.

I think they should say on the discharge note how many staples are in so the nurse knows how many to take out.  I can understand her missing one.  As you may remember, there was quite a bit of bleeding when the staples came out so perhaps it was difficult to see.  It was just lucky I showered this morning and had a good look at the wound.  I saw the staple glinting in the sunlight frown

The bright side: They didn't forget to extract the hammer and chisel smile

Unbelievable! Too bad there was so much bleeding when you had them out that one got hidden away. I had no bleeding when staples were removed, and didn't know how lucky I was. Good that you have the strips and the new dressing.

You are joking cels thats terrible was the person wjo took them out blind!!! That makes me angry stuff like that. What if you got an infecftion in it l would be livid lol

I hope you get it out with no hassle.

Laura xx

Bummer!! Hope it goes well Cels

Awww, don't say that Laura.  Infection is what I'm worrying about now although the nurse said there was no sign of it sad

Lol, you brought a smile to my face cheesygrin

It did.  I'm just glad I spotted it smile

Now that would of been something lol

Sorry did not mean to scare you if they said its ok then it must be. Just angers me that they missed one you would think they would double check. Sorry cels it will be fine l did not mean that in a bad way xxx

No, I know that Laura, I had already scared myself biggrin

Firstly when I had the staples out and it bled, then just when I was over that and the dressing came off I saw that blooming staple.  I just though, "Oh no!"  And then I was expecting it all to be lovely and closed and it were a few gaps.

I'm just a born worrier, it's not you xxx

hi cels,

checking in with you. ...

that is bad. ...and sloppy. ...

will you be able to change the dressing yourself? I wouldn't ..

big warm hug, sweetheart

renee

happy easter

Thanks for your concern Renee,

Yes, it was sloppy of the nurse who took the staples out,  I can only think that because it bled she couldn't see it.

I can change the dressing, and I have a friend who is a nurse who would do it also.  Neither of us saw the staple before, it wasn't until the shower cleaned it up and suddenly it was visible.

Mind, this dressing is staying on for a week.

Happy Easter hun xxx

Yep, we all know they can make mistakes too, they are human after all.

What does annoy me is when they try to repeatedly cover up their mistakes as they did with me.

Yes, I think yours was an exceptional case.  Putting part of the implant in the wrong place.  Inexcusable yet that's what they tried to do,   Well, they didn't even try to excuse it did they, just made out it was a mishap.  It beggars belief.
