might be a dumb question but if i was to drink alcohol tonight could it possibly infect my incision somehow? i had ankle surgery almost 2 weeks ago and still have my stitches in. probably such a dumb question sorry guys but i’m very cautious
I think you need to be more worried about alcohol and any pain medication you might be taking or alcohol and trying to get around if you're no weight bearing. Drinking shouldn't cause an infection.
I checked with my doc if I could drink alcohol with my meds and clexan and he said it would be fine
apart from thebissue of mixing alcohl with pain killers, my fear would be losing balance orv tryng something I wouldn't try without a drnk...and thus getting hurt. In moderation and being sensible, can't see it would do harm
I,understand that alcohol has the ability to slow recovery and to thin the blood. I'm five weeks post a total ankle revision and am not going to drink until after I expect to be fully wright bearing ten weeks after the surgery which took six hours.
Best wishes, Richard
I was a few weeks after surgery and long off pain meds, but I had a cocktail every Saturday and as long as I just had one and ate something first it was fine. You don’t want to get tipsy and lose your balance.
Bacteria is the cause of an infection not alcohol, but mixing pain meds and alcohol can be fatal.
I developed osteomyelitis two weeks after surgery and was hospitalized for a week to have procedures to treat the infection. IV pain medication was administered to help relieve what was one of the worst times in my 55 years on this earth. First “worst” was the fall and surgery afterward.
Please use caution and try to wait until your progress has moved forward before you drink. I am a bit biased as I run a drug and alcohol treatment center.
Good luck to you in your recovery.
