A few years ago, the FDA added suicide warnings to common anti-depressants. This included drugs like:Prozac (fluoxetine),
Zoloft (sertraline),
Paxil (paroxetine),
Luvox (fluvoxamine),
Celexa (citalopram),
Lexapro (escitalopram),
Wellbutrin (bupropion),
Effexor (venlafaxine),
Serzone (nefazodone), and
Remeron (mirtazapine).
Anti-Depressants that can make you suicidal - hmmm says alot. I knew there was 100's of bad side effects but you wouldn't think someone would prescribe something for depression that could make them suicidal! Unless of course they knew that in the first place and want to cull the planet or something :s
Amazing you wouldn't think that an Anti Depprestion tablet that's given to people who are at great risk of being suicidle would be allowed to be given. But there again since I've had to take a lot of medication due to other illnesses ,it happens all the time.Your given one med for one problem and it causes another problem.Ive found this time and again.I just don't know when all this bad medication will end.
The increased risks of suicde when using ADs usually apply to younger patients (25 and under) and normally occur within the first few weeks of use. This is why any good GP should request you book a follow up appointment for a few weeks after you start use of an AD.
There is no doubt that ADs do help a lot of people with depression to get better as such, as with most medicines, it falls into the category of managed risk.
