Hi is it safe to take 2 ducolax nightly long term i have been taking fr over a year
I believe the longer you take them the less effective they are as your system comes to depend on them . What else are you doinf to help
Do not use for longer than 1 week without checking with your doctor. Using Dulcolax for a long time may result in loss of normal bowel function.
You need to establish why you aren't having regular bowel movements. Something like movicol can be taken daily long term with few side effects and no chance of bowel damage.
That is interesting. A few years ago my consultant told me to cut down significantly and every try and go a few months without taking as it might not have side effects but your body becomes reliant and he said this was not good for you.
Ducolax is pretty strong and works as a type of irritant which helps gut to contract. Movicol works in a different (gentler) way, I think, by drawing more liquid into the intestine hence making poo softer. Just make sure you stay well hydrated. (It's just what I've learnt by Googling!)
This is completely right. Movicol/laxido etc are safe for long term use as they have no effect on the gut itself. They turn to gel in the intestine making it easier for stool to move along and giving more bulk to the stool.
Dulcolax and senna are irritants. Dulcolax is better than senna but still you can become ependant on it.
