Ear issues and Perimenopause

In relation to Perimenopause, has anyone experienced any strange issues with their ears? Sometimes, out of nowhere, I'll hear this tonal change, like a radio tuning in or something. I know this sounds strange. I don't know quite how else to describe it. Also, I'm in the throes of PMS right now (I typically experience PMSDD which is PMS on another level), and my left ear feels as if there's air in it, or as if I need to plug my nose and gently blow in order to equalize it. I noticed something similar the other day, like a fluttering in my left ear, and I just wondered if anyone has experienced anything like this? Possibly even those of you who have said they experience dizziness, which I actually haven't experienced myself, no dizziness, just this weird ear thing. It's not an earache, it doesn't ache. It's just as if it's lightly plugged or something, or needs to be equalized. That's the best I can do to describe.

Hope this doesn't sound too "out there!" Lol.

Thanks for any help.

it's not too "out there" lol.  there are so many weird things happen to us at this time.  I have this.  I've had it for four years.  Tried all sorts of eardrops, had lots of doctors look at them. but all can't find anything wrong.  It feels blocked and I also get a ringing, tinnitus?   The weird thing is, after weeks of feeling blocked it will sometimes pop and no ringing and I feel balanced again.  Then, it comes back and stays for weeks, months.  I now think of course it's all hormonal, when I'm out of balance all over, my ears tell me so.  Then brief moments of balance.  ha, it does sound too "out there".  lol

i get this fluttering noise in my ear from time to time and tinitis. i highly doubt it has much to do with menopause though, since i've had it a loooong time. i supposed it could be water in the ear, maybe too much wax? or both or we just have really neetoe noises in our ears! smile

me too, it is with me so much of the time that when it stop, it is sooo nice! then in a few seconds it is back. i guess i don't really think about it much, but the body is pretty interesting!

Hi,

I have experienced something similar. I had a ringing in my ears off and on over the past few years with episodes of feeling like there is a pressure build up in my ears which actually felt like it starts in my throat around my tonsil area. I know it sounds strange but that's how it felt.

A few months ago this pressure feeling got worse and no matter what I did I couldn't get any relief. At this point everything sounded hollow to me and all I wanted to do was get my ears to pop. Went to doctor and no ear infection. He said it was called eustation tube dysfunction and I needed to clear out the blocked tubes from all angles. Took a steroid nasal spray, antihistamine/decongestant and gargled with Cepacol mouthwash. It took about two weeks but finally it cleared up and I've had no problem since!

I don't know if this is what you are suffering from but thought I'd share my experience with you in hopes that it may help.

Hi there!

Thank you! Thank ALL of you ladies as ALL of THIS ... has been MOST helpful! I SO appreciate all the information, and to share such personal information on here, it just really a privilege to be trusted with the things you are all going through. So happy I found this forum. I guess I'm now adding this "ear thing" to my list of strange symptoms. To throw even more at you, I also get this overall body itch, almost like an itch you can't scratch. I thought maybe I just needed to moisturize more, but I really don't think that's it because I lotion-up after every shower in the morning, and even use a wet lotion that requires you not towel off so it soaks in. I don't have dry skin, but sometimes I could just itch and itch along my arms and legs and stomach and sides, it reminds me of when I was pregnant and your belly was growing and because the skin was being stretchec, how it would itch? If anyone recalls that? That's what it feels like. And, recently, read someone else on here experienced that. I'm definitely making a list of symptoms so I can explain ALL of this to the specialist. The more information this specialist has on me, the better. I would imagine at least. Thank you ladies, again! This forum has been a godsend! Feel so much less alone in all of this.

docs will try to rule out stuff, they will ask you if you changed your detergent. I itch a lot, but it is mostly my legs. Not sure if it is the multiple autoimmune diseses I have or if it is hormonal.  you might want to be checked for things autoimmune.  especailly if you have lots of issues.

I do have Psoriasis that shows up for me as a small path, about the size of a dime, on the back of my scalp. I use T-Gel every few days and also Salicylic Solution and a cream. I've heard you can take a pill and nearly eradicate it. I'm seeing the dermatologist tomorrow to find out if I'm an eligible candidate for that or maybe mine is not severe enough, but during ovulation and PMS, I find that's when my stress levels go up, which in turn brings about a flare-up in my Psoriasis and then the whole-body itch. I just wondered if it could also be hormonal because I can't remember who it was, but one woman stated on here that she felt a whole-body itch during certain times of the month. I guess I'm solving my problems, one-by-one, trying to determine where perimenopause begins and engs for me, and my other issues begin and end, such as depression and Psoriasis. Those are separate issues that --thanks to Perimenoapuse-- I actuallly think are just heightened and taken to a whole other level. Perimenopause, for me, simply means that ALL of my issues, anything I've ever dealt with is just magnified and on blast--at nearly all times. I just don't understand how the body can withstand these severe symptoms for a sustained period of time. What a toll on the body, which is why I'm fully looking into bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT), I can't help but feel like a little cream on my arms could very well change the entire course of my life by bringing me into balance--something I belive I've never, ever had.

Is it like a light buzzing/ringing sound?

This might be 'right out there' and not related, but it may be useful for some readers. But your post reminded me of something that happened to myOH some years back.

He kept complaining of hearing music and muffled voices. Sp much so his doctor was going to send him for 'counciling' for the 'voices'. OH told him if he was 'hearing voices' they probably wouldn't be in Spanish - a language he doesn't speak!

Turns out he had an ear infection which, combined with the number of fillings he had in his teeth had turned one ear into a radio receiver - don't laugh it does happen. Just a thought.

i'm going to try this.! thnks for posting cheesygrin

everything that others have, I have had or have!  This forum is great for this.   I had the lower leg itching, horrible.  But it went away after a long time though.  don't have it now but have other strange things.  I've been tested by a rheumatologist for autoimmune diseases (is that the word?)  but all normal, so I would say it's all hormonal unless all doctors don't know what their doing which I doubt .  some might not, but I doubt ALL. lol

Yes. Apparently this is common too. I didn't know and I have been getting it for years now. I commented on a different discussion.

Sorry I can't find a solution for this one so I am just putting up with it. It does help knowing it is not something I am

Imagining lol😀😀

i wish you well <3

cheesygrin  ha.  sorry had to laugh.  But yes, I agree.  I keep telling them that I think it's an inner ear infection!.  Because of what happened to your OH, I will take a trip back to doctor and try and get it sorted.

I get the horrible ringing sound from time to time i think its peri related unfortunately 😔

Dear moonleaf

I had a couple of friends with ear issues in peri. Painfull ringing ears. I just get itchy ones!

had my blocked ears for 18 years at 31yo, it comes and goes got real bad lately. think I'm in perimenopause due to being 48yo and other new complaints arising like my skin feels its getting pulled of my face and generalised tingling

hello are you still experiencing this blocked ear sensation. I also have it and it is driving me mad. Been to GP several times also seen an ENT at my local hospital who couldn't tell me what was wrong. Had a MRI scan which came back clear. They have ruled out Menieres Disease but I have no answers as to what is causing this, He said not due to menopause but I am 51 and perimenopausal so am thinking it is. Have you had any relief?

Hi tmpearce!  Okay, I am so glad I found this. This sounds exactly what I have going on.  I hope you read this.  It's so scary when you get these crazy symptoms out of no where.  I am 45 and this throat thing just started.  Went to doc.  She gave me antibx bc I had so much goop in my ears.  I guess it helped a little, but now it's back.  Worse on left side than right.  My ears are crackling when I swallow.  I can try to pop them to equalize, but the crackling doesn't go away.  The steroid nose spray was prescription?  And what decongestant/antihistamine combo did you use?  My throat burns.  I'm guessing it's the fluid draining from my inner ear?
