Starting my 5th month after TKR. I have been getting, tho not very often, what feel like and electrical shock. Not a poke, much stronger. It's on the outside of my knee. Lasts 20 seconds. Does anyone else have this problem?
my best guess would be nerves growing back. call docs office and ask.
Agreed. You'll have a lot of nerve sensations over the first 12-18 months but they do decrease. However, you will probably notice them down the road when you try to kneel on hard surfaces (concrete, tile, hard dirt, etc.). Don't do that. The pain is from the nerves and not the knee. Wear hard tactical knee pads outside and use a 4" foam pad indoors. The chances of this going away...ever...is slim at best according to long-term patients.
Chico I don't plan on ever kneeling on my knee again. But these shocks come while I a.m sitting in my recliner watching TV. Is the tourniquet, numbness and swelling ever going to go away? Can't they cut or burn the nerve ending to deaden it?
I do...... I guess I thought they were nerves regenerating. Don't know for certain.
Ive had a couple of therapies, such as genicular nerve block, and a nerve dissection, which both helped for liek 2 days tops.....
just keep massaging your knee to get nerves used to it , I didnt with my first one a d still get some nerve pain , the next one I made myself and it helped
Jenny I will, but not as hard as I did. I really hurt it yesterday. Thanks
Must consult with a good doctor.
drarjunsharda I will but am having surgery tomorrow Wish I could put it off but HAVE to have it. I will be laying on my left side, the TKR leg side, with my other leg on top of it. I am so afraid it will really mess up my knee. It's an hour and a half surgery.
I am very apprehensive about it. Not the surgery so much as the after pain effects on my knee.
