For 2 months now I have very muffled hearing in my left ear.........it was diagnosed as ETD.......I was given anti biotics, nasonex and clariten (sorry for spelling !!)........nothing has worked, I stopped medication to.........still the same, seen about six docs, no one seems to have any idea..........it comes and goes, and does seem slightly easier (or have I just got used to it !!!!!!). In the morning I feel fine and it begins 1 hour after getting up...........Is this normal...........how long can it last ????????????? HELP !!!!
I have suffered with this for well over three years in my left ear being blocked and serious muffling and hearing loss. I would use the dial tone on the telephone to test the difference hearing loss for that ear so I knew it was quite severe. I tried various things like inhaling menthol crystals, trying to make my ears pop by blowing hard to no avail. I have recently taken up distance running again, due to the exercise and heavier breathing, sweating, the tube cleared by itself and my hearing returned, albeit it is abit disturbing to be confronting with a large wall of sound.
Hello, Ive been reading through the etd experiences and yours caught my attention because six months ago I was out travelling in south america and the very same thing happened to me. I was literally having a wonderful time one moment and the next I was suddenly closed in and have felt in a bubble ever since-as you can imagine that was the end of my travels. I felt utterly surreal as though I was somehow not there, in a dream almost. I have since been diagnosed with ETD and am awaiting grommets which will equalise the pressure imbalance I am constantly suffering. I has been the starngest and scariest 6 months of my life. I have heard thast gromets can cure this -I am ticking off the days till I am back in the land of the living. It's been hard. Perhaps you could talk to you doctor about gromets? It sounds like you have something similar. You're not alone with this horrible ailment!
