Hi,
I had a cataract removed from my eye one week ago. My Dr, said it is OK to exercise one week after cataract surgery. I am younger, 39, and was wondering if anyone else started their exercise routine so quickly after cataract removal?
Thanks!

Hi - I too had cataract surgery 1 week ago today. i started walking 3 days after surgery but am going to wait a couple of weeks before doing anything else. I usually run or do Elliptical training and small weights but I think I will let my eye heal more. Ithough my eyesight is doing well I still feel like there is something in my eye.
Search the web for info on this - some sites caution you more than others saying your eyes can take 5 or 6 weeks to completely heal. My thinking - since these lenses are in their for good (explants come with additional risk) not going to jeopardize recovery by doing too much too soon.
It depends on the type of activity or exercise. A light activity like walking is fine any time. Bending, lifting, and picking up more than 30 lbs should be avoided for at least 1 week. Running should probably be avoided even longer due to the associated jarring motion. Swimming should be avoided for 3 weeks. In any case, if in doubt, play it safe.
My doctor said I could do anything I wanted to the following day (including sex....) just no super heavy exercise (like running) for a week. Also, no hanging upside down for at least 2 months (that was a big no - I'm not a gymnist and I don't hang upside down or do handstands but that's what they said). I started hard running again at around 2 weeks. I waited an extra week to be cautious.
The BIGGEST caution I was very careful about was when showering (or working out) and I felt like I needed to dry my eyes, I would always close and "dab" my eyes with a towel when I needed to. I would never rub them and I was very careful about that for several weeks.
