Experiences after the removal of a Foley catheter

I have had a Foley catheter fitted for 4 weeks (changed once) and it was removed today. I now feel like a human being again!!! The doctor says that there might be some incontinence problems for a few days, but I am more worried about getting back into a normal peeing routine. Any experiences on the latter point? Thanks!

For me it was immediate.

I've been told that Kegel exercises will help if you have trouble peeing at first. Also it takes a while for the bladder to readjust so it probably won't get back to normal for a while.  Did doc receommend you try to hold it if you have frequent urges ?

Why so long time with the cath? Mine was taken out in 2 days after turp, were there problems with your surgery? Usualy they want you to pee in the office after the cath is removed or send you home and tell to call the office if you do not pee in a couple of hours. i had to pee on the way home from uro office just after removal. You will be peeing quite often in the first few weeks, get some pads for yourself to catch the misses. Good luck.

why did you have a foley? Surgery?

I was on a Foley Catheter for "4 Months" due to not being able to Void/Pee after a Lung Cancer operation... After 4 months and finally passing a Void Retention Test, the foley was removed..Presently, I've been off the foley for ~ 2 months and my Peeing has started to return to "normal"....Before, I had frequency problems, having to Pee 3-4 times per night and 5-6 times per day otherwise.Presently, I Void ~ 2 times per night and 4 times during the day otherwise..Pretty normal for a 72 year old man...GOOD LUCK!.......

You need to keep a supply of self-catheters on hand.
